Position Title: Deschutes District BLM - Wildlife Biologist AmeriCorps Member

Position Summary: The Deschutes Field Office is recruiting one (1) Wildlife Biologist AmeriCorps Member that can begin as early as June 1st, 2024 and go through August 30th, 2024. The position will support the Field Office which manages wildlife, botany, hydrology, and rangeland programs and resources in the Deschutes River basin near La Pine, Oregon. Specifically, the position would assist in researching and developing alternatives for restoring oxbows and associated Oregon spotted frog habitat on BLM-administered lands in the basin.
Duties and Responsibilities: Major duties are related to assisting Deschutes Field Office staff in natural resources management and related activities associated with the location and project described above (percentages describe the estimated amount of time expected on each task).
On-site training would be provided. Training will not exceed 20% of total member service hours.
Required Qualifications:
Applicants must be currently pursuing either an associates, bachelors, or graduate degree.
Duty Location: Duties are performed within the Deschutes Field Office in Prineville, Oregon. The position requires regular work in the field and office. Field work is expected to occur near La Pine, Oregon within the Deschutes Basin. Occasionally, this position may require use of your vehicle (miles reimbursable) during duty hours.
Terms of Employment: One AmeriCorps member will complete a term of service (520-hours, 13 weeks), starting June 1st through August 30th, 2024. Dates of service are flexible to accommodate applicant availability. The member must complete a minimum of 520 service hours by the end of their term. The member will receive a 30-minute lunch each day and this lunch break does not count towards AmeriCorps member service hours. Training will not exceed 20% of total member service hours.
Program Benefits: $8,320 living allowance along with a $3,000 housing stipend for a total combined stipend of $11,320 dispersed on a monthly basis throughout the term of service. The member will have available a $1,000 reimbursement fund for gear, mileage, and training relevant to the position. Upon successful completion of program requirements, an education award amount of $1,824.07 is awarded to the member.
The living allowance and education award are taxable. Members are responsible for providing their own food. Service eligibility is contingent upon the results of a criminal and driving background check. These positions are sponsored by The Corps Network's OYSI and EAP program.
