Conducts research and testing to address specific medical conditions, improve the performance of existing devices, and develop new products. Being a Biomedical Engineer collaborates with medical professionals to gather information for product specifications. Ensures that designs and devices meet regulatory, safety, and quality requirements and standards, such as the FDA regulations and ISO standards. Additionally, Biomedical Engineer utilizes or develops software to perform testing or integrate with devices. Job Description
Role and Responsibilities
· Collecting and recording data in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
· Performing animal husbandry duties (clean, feed, care and water)
· Performing observations/assessments
· Preparation of animals for surgery
· Administering substances to animals
· Euthanizing animals and collecting tissues
· Basic vivarium maintenance
· Data Review
· Ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule to include, but not limited to evenings, weekends; sometimes on short notice
· All other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Education Requirements
· HS/GED/BS or equivalent in animal or life science related discipline.
· Experience: 6 months preferred
· Certification: ALAT preferred
Preferred Skills
· Proficient with Microsoft Office core applications. Ability to learn and use additional applications.
· Good written and oral communication skills, both inside and outside the organization.
Physical Requirements
· Individuals will be working in both an office and vivarium setting.
· Physical requirements: Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs. Occasionally ascend/descend ladders and stairs. Spend the majority of the day standing and/or walking.
· Ability to don and wear personal protective gear, including respirators.
Work Environment
· The person filling this position will work predominantly in a laboratory setting. There may be exposure to animal pathogens and chemicals. There may be handling of, and/or exposure to animal tissue and zoonotic organisms.
Additional Notes
· Ability to handle common laboratory species
· Basic understanding of study design and protocols
· Knowledge of GLPs and other federal regulations relating to care of laboratory animals
· Basic understanding of laboratory operations and data collection
