Biomedical Engineering Director directs and coordinates biomedical equipment service operations that provide lifecycle management of biomedical clinical and research equipment including safety testing, repair, maintenance, and user support. Establishes standards and procedures for equipment maintenance, testing, calibration, documentation, and inventory processes. Being a Biomedical Engineering Director provides technical leadership and develops applicable training and resources for medical staff to ensure correct and safe operations of all equipment and devices. Works with vendors to maintain up-to-date information about new products and equipment upgrades. Additionally, Biomedical Engineering Director supports the equipment needs of all specialty areas including Radiology, Clinical Pathology, Cardiology, Respiratory Therapy, and others. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director or head of a unit/department. The Biomedical Engineering Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget.     This versatile position is accountable for ensuring proper task management to achieve outstanding customer satisfaction in both general field services and specialized Biomedical Engineering repairs. The Field and Biomedical Engineering Repair Technician is responsible for on-site installation, repair, maintenance, system improvement, and testing under the guidance of the Site Superintendent. They assist in various phases of construction and biomedical equipment operation.

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provides service and customer support daily in both general field services and biomedical engineering.
    • Executes work according to the company schedule, adapting to the requirements of each task.
    • Generates timely and detailed service reports for various projects, including healthcare facilities.
    • Documents processes and time utilization on projects, whether in construction or biomedical engineering.
    • Operates vehicles safely and utilizes field automation systems for efficient task management.
    • Adheres to all safety procedures and protocols, including those specific to healthcare environments in biomedical engineering.
    • Collaborates with other technical teams and provides assistance as required, demonstrating versatility in both construction and biomedical settings.
    • Understands client requirements and provides appropriate recommendations and briefings, considering both general field and biomedical contexts.
    • Cultivates positive relationships with clients, including healthcare facility staff, ensuring satisfaction in diverse service areas.
    • Utilizes a variety of tools and equipment relevant to both general field services and biomedical engineering.
    • Prepares construction sites and healthcare environments by ensuring cleanliness and removing potential hazards specific to each context.
    • Assists in loading or unloading materials, whether construction-related or biomedical equipment for various projects.
    • Performs tasks such as digging trenches, backfilling holes, or compacting earth as needed for construction and biomedical projects.
    • Assists other craft workers and skilled technicians in both general field and biomedical engineering contexts.
    • Follows construction plans and instructions related to various projects, including biomedical engineering installations.
    • Participates in demolition activities related to both general field and biomedical projects.
    • Works as a spotter during activities involving hazardous energy sources, demonstrating awareness in both construction and biomedical settings.

    Gains technical and mechanical abilities required for different projects through observation and collaboration with experienced employees, adapting skills to both construction and biomedical engineering needs.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Community College, Trade School, Technical Degree, or certification in Biomedical Engineering Repair Technician (DOD) preferred.
    • Two (2) years proven experience in both general construction field service and biomedical engineering field service, preferred.
    • Basic knowledge of general construction, plumbing, electrical systems, and medical equipment in the healthcare industry.
    • Familiarity with tools and equipment relevant to both general field services and biomedical engineering.
    • Ability to work flexible shifts and adapt to changing work schedules in diverse settings.
    • Aptitude in math and strong problem-solving abilities related to both construction and biomedical equipment.
    • Valid Driver’s license and reliable transportation for commuting to various job sites.
    • Occasional overnight stays may be required for certain projects in both general field services and biomedical engineering.
    • Punctuality and adherence to a daily schedule are essential.
    • Prior military experience is a plus.
    • OSHA 30-Hour Certification.
    • Knowledge of small electronics theory preferred.

    ADA/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Work is medium to heavy demand in both general field services and biomedical engineering. Must be able to move objects and biomedical equipment, using abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina in diverse service areas. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands, fingers, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; talk or hear. The employee must be able to lift up to 80 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects and biomedical equipment. Requires good visual acuity and hearing.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Regularly works around moving mechanical parts and in healthcare settings, construction sites, and diverse environments that include varying conditions, potential exposure to hazardous materials, and noise levels that may be loud at times.
