Biomedical Engineering Director directs and coordinates biomedical equipment service operations that provide lifecycle management of biomedical clinical and research equipment including safety testing, repair, maintenance, and user support. Being a Biomedical Engineering Director provides technical leadership and develops applicable training and resources for medical staff to ensure correct and safe operations of all equipment and devices.     The Harvest Inn is an idyllic resort designed to celebrate the vineyard way of life, with 78 luxurious accommodations nestled into four uniquely crafted neighborhoods, two secluded swimming pools, and a plush spa with indoor and outdoor facilities. Surrounded by lush landscaping of expansive clipped lawns, Harvest Inn has serene shaded groves, partially forested by towering redwoods. Harvest Inn is home to gardens of agricultural botanicals that produce many of the ingredients on the menus of our on-property restaurant, Harvest Table.

    Our Director of Engineering is responsible for the maintenance and enhancement of the building, grounds, mechanical, electrical, H.V.A.C., IT systems and related equipment in accordance with energy conservation and preventative maintenance programs. This position ensures the upkeep of guest areas to maintain an attractive Hotel and manages all renovations, expansions and special projects. Active participation in large scale project management and assistance with the technological operations of the hotel in all departments is required.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Conduct and document inspections that assesses the safe and efficient maintenance of the physical structure and operation of all mechanical electrical, H.V.A.C. systems and any other related equipment.
    • Assign and verify completion of all work orders and the routine maintenance of guestrooms, public spaces, meeting rooms, banquet rooms, outlets, back of the house areas and the grounds.
    • Assign and verify completion of all repairs, replacements and renovations within all areas of the facility.
    • Supervise the engineering department, which includes scheduling, enforcing service standards and the training and motivation of the staff.
    • Hire, train and manage the staff.
    • Conduct performance evaluations, coach and develop peers and subordinates.
    • Ensure proper usage of all chemicals by monitoring usage, providing training for staff and ensure all hazardous supplies are properly labeled and the proper protective equipment is used in accordance with the Hotels Hazard Communication Standards.
    • Adhere to purchasing policies and control including contractor bids, budgets and schedules.
    • Recommend, create and maintain effective Energy Management and Preventative Maintenance programs.
    • Access and input information into the computer and generate all required reports.
    • Maintain appropriate supply of materials and equipment to carry out the normal day to day operating and maintenance requirements of the hotel operations. Requisition and request approval for equipment when necessary to meet the needs of the business.
    • Maintain organized and efficient administrative and filing systems for the timely and accurate handling of correspondence, reports, requisitions for purchase, and other administrative requirements.
    • Maintain a well-defined and organized system for the inventory, maintenance and storage of all tools, products, materials, and equipment necessary to execute the required activities of the department.
    • Regularly conduct staff meetings for the purpose of keeping the staff informed and trained. Create a positive work environment.
    • Prepare the weekly schedule and make necessary modifications by regularly monitoring the house count and making adjustments accordingly. Schedule staff in accordance with business demands and restrictions.
    • Determine and carry out plans, schedules and maintenance that is cost effective and appropriate for the business conditions.
    • Review, revise and approve daily payroll reports as needed. Regularly monitor the payroll budget to ensure labor costs are aligned with the forecast.
    • Attend the Hotel staff meeting and coordinate with other department heads to ensure a smooth operation.
    • Work in conjunction with others to prepare the annual engineering budget and monthly forecasts.
    • Monitor the issuance of keys and maintain inventory, security, lock and key control for all areas of the facility. Establish key and access control and updates systems and processes as required/appropriate.
    • Establish and maintain policies and procedures for the Engineering Department and interpret company policy for staff.
    • Immediately report to the hotel in the event of any emergency. Emergencies may include, but are not limited to fires, power or other equipment failures, floods, lightning, earthquake or other disasters of similar nature and magnitude.
    • Perform other duties as requested, such as coordination and supervision of special requests for room and/or meeting space modifications.
    • In conjunction with others plan, budget, and schedule facility modifications including cost estimates, bid sheets, layouts, and contracts for construction.
    • Acts as liaison to public utility, environmental, and energy agencies.
    • Inspect construction and installation progress to ensure conformance to established specifications.
    • Identify and resolve issues pertaining to the job scope with a minimum amount of supervision.
    • Lead the Safety Committee as chairman and maintain positive safety culture in the workplace. Actively participate in the company’s safety program and work with the People & Culture department to ensure compliance.
    • Lead training on life safety equipment and processes ensuring certification for tools and supplies and behaviors are kept current.
    • Participate in repairs and maintenance work thus setting a positive work culture for the team.
    • All other duties as assigned by supervisor.

    Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by the Hotel from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination.

    Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to mirror the business needs of the Hotel.

    Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with the Hotel rules and regulations for the safe and efficient operation of the facility.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Excellent and precise verbal and written communication skills.
    • Effectively communicate and instruct the staff and provide assistance in areas where they may lack knowledge, skills or experience.
    • Translate and simplify fairly technical information into terminology that a lay person may understand.
    • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
    • Understand a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
    • Organize and create Maintenance Reports and business correspondences, using a moderately complex computer system.
    • Observation and initiative that supports identifying and resolves problems in a timely manner and gather and analyze information efficiently and effectively.
    • Meets legal age requirement for the position.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

    Any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to graduation from college, or any other combination of education, training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Three years previous Maintenance supervisory experience is required.

    CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS AND LICENSES

    Valid CA driver’s license required. Education and certification requirements may apply post hire.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Directly supervise staff in the engineering department in accordance with company policy and local statutes. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    PAY SCALE

    The salary range for this position is $80,000 to $95,000. This is the pay range for this position that the Hotel reasonably expects to pay. Decisions regarding individual salaries will be based on a number of factors, such as experience, type of hotel experience, and education.
