Biomedical Engineering Director directs and coordinates biomedical equipment service operations that provide lifecycle management of biomedical clinical and research equipment including safety testing, repair, maintenance, and user support. Establishes standards and procedures for equipment maintenance, testing, calibration, documentation, and inventory processes. Being a Biomedical Engineering Director provides technical leadership and develops applicable training and resources for medical staff to ensure correct and safe operations of all equipment and devices. Works with vendors to maintain up-to-date information about new products and equipment upgrades. Additionally, Biomedical Engineering Director supports the equipment needs of all specialty areas including Radiology, Clinical Pathology, Cardiology, Respiratory Therapy, and others. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director or head of a unit/department. The Biomedical Engineering Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Biomedical Engineering Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     Our Opportunity

    We are currently seeking a Engineering Manager in our Biomedical Engineering and Sciences Practice in Chicago, IL. In this role you will work as part of a team in a stimulating and challenging work environment with significant opportunities for professional growth.

    You will be responsible for

    • Interacting and collaborating with professionals from diverse technical backgrounds such as mechanical engineering, materials science, polymers chemistry, health sciences, and biomedical engineering to address complex problems facing clients in the life sciences industry
    • Analyzing root causes for a wide variety of failures related to issues arising in development, manufacturing, or use of products in multiple industries, including medical devices, cardiovascular, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and consumer health products
    • Participating as part of multidisciplinary teams in complex technical projects related but not limited to medical devices, as well as pharmaceutical and drug delivery products in support of our clients
    • Managing and executing complex projects in support of our clients
    • Actively participating and providing leadership in our Biomedical Engineering & Sciences Practice
    • Actively marketing the Practice’s and the Firm’s technical capabilities to clients and the scientific community
    • Developing additional expertise, gaining industry exposure, and establishing a new and expanded client base through peer-reviewed publications and service on relevant professional committees/organizations

    You will have the following skills and qualifications

    • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field
    • At least 5 years of related professional experience in a technical field, including experience with product development and evaluations in the life sciences industry
    • Direct experience in fields related to cardiovascular devices, surgical robotics, drug delivery, human factors engineering, and/or biotechnology are highly desirable
    • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills which enable you to effectively communicate highly technical issues to a non-technical audience while possessing the technical depth to collaborate and interact with regulatory bodies
    • Recognition as an expert in your field with a strong publication history
    • The ability to attract projects and continuously expand your business volume to support full-time staff and the skills needed to manage, develop, and promote a group of highly motivated professionals
    • Established client relationships and a thriving consulting business is highly desirable; individuals with strong potential for business development through institutional support and resources will also be considered
