Biomedical Engineering Director directs and coordinates biomedical equipment service operations that provide lifecycle management of biomedical clinical and research equipment including safety testing, repair, maintenance, and user support. Establishes standards and procedures for equipment maintenance, testing, calibration, documentation, and inventory processes. Being a Biomedical Engineering Director provides technical leadership and develops applicable training and resources for medical staff to ensure correct and safe operations of all equipment and devices. Works with vendors to maintain up-to-date information about new products and equipment upgrades. Additionally, Biomedical Engineering Director supports the equipment needs of all specialty areas including Radiology, Clinical Pathology, Cardiology, Respiratory Therapy, and others. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director or head of a unit/department. The Biomedical Engineering Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Biomedical Engineering Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     SUMMARY

    The Director of Engineering is responsible for:

    Develop, implement and manage emergency programs, programs for the operations & maintenance of all equipment and physical structures and landscaping in compliance with corporate/ franchise standards, local, state & national codes and regulations to protect the assets, guests and employees, to ensure optimum operations, minimize expenses and maximize customer satisfaction.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Chief Engineer’s primary responsibilities will include:

    • Conducts pre-shift meeting and receives project work assignments for the day from the General Manager
    • Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on all major equipment to include but not limited to:
    • Laundry equipment
    • Cooling tower
    • Pumps
    • Motors
    • Repairs all major equipment as needed.
    • Repairs all major in-unit items as needed (appliances, cabinetry, sofa, doors, etc.).
    • Provides “on- call” response on a 24/7 basis as schedule.
    • Organizes and maintains filing systems and files correspondence and other records.
    • Conducts research and compiles and types statistical reports.
    • Develop, recommend, implement and manage the division's budget capital expenditure plan, forecasts and objectives consistent with maintaining a first class property and management's expectations.
    • Develop safety, security and emergency procedures/action plans for the hotel and peripheries and monitor program implementation within corporate guidelines to protect guests and staff, secure the assets and minimize losses.
    • Develop, implement and manage a maintenance program and negotiate maintenance contracts for the hotel, the grounds and all of the equipment in compliance with corporate/franchise standards and local, state and national codes and regulations to ensure the safety, convenience and satisfaction of all guests, managers and employees to protect the assets and maintain the property in first class condition.
    • Develop, implement & direct all Emergency Programs; ensure all equipment is maintained, conduct inspections & drills, ensure compliance with all codes and regulations, train all employees and maintain accurate records to ensure a safe environment which protects the assets, guests and employees.
    • Develop, implement and manage an energy conservation program for property to minimize expenses.
    • Coordinate renovation bidding, define the cost and scope of the project and oversee the general contractor and subcontractors to ensure quality work is performed for minimal cost.
    • Perform special projects and other responsibilities as assigned.

    Qualifications

    REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITY

    • Requires advanced knowledge of Building Management/Engineering.
    • May require considerable working knowledge of other major areas in the hotel and the skill to integrate and communicate that information.
    • Requires analyzing activities and/or information involving some original data manipulation or interpretation to arrive at logical conclusions.
    • Good verbal and written skills.
    • Strong organizational and multi tasking abilities.
    • Significant experience with all maintenance.
    • Good mechanical trouble-shooting and analytical skills.
    • General handyman skills.
    • Good attitude and maturity to work with limits supervision.
    • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities are required.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Education –High school diploma required.
    • Professional tradesman certification in at least one discipline: electrician, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, carpentry.
    • Experience – Five years experience in related field preferred.
    • Two years experience as a head or Assistant Chief Engineer in same or similar environment.
    • Experience – Four to five years experience in related field preferred.
