Biomedical Engineering Technician delivers biomedical equipment services that provide safety testing, repair, maintenance, and user support of biomedical clinical and research equipment. Assembles, installs, repairs, and maintains a variety of medical equipment. Being a Biomedical Engineering Technician tests the functionality of equipment and takes accuracy, sensitivity, and selectivity measurements to calibrate devices. Coordinates with medical staff and vendors to troubleshoot problems, resolve equipment malfunctions and enable new devices. Additionally, Biomedical Engineering Technician supports medical staff with equipment operations training. Typically requires an associate degree. Typically requires Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Biomedical Engineering Technician works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job.     Job Description

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The BioMedical Technician is responsible for keeping all laboratory biomedical equipment in good working order.  Position will be responsible for instructing employees in the care and use of equipment and performing special project work to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective utilization of technology.  Performing preventative maintenance on equipment to ensure high-quality testing, preparing equipment performance reports, and calibrating parts will be required.

     

    Schedule: Monday - Friday 5:00 am - 1:30 pm

     

     

    DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Duties may include but are not necessarily limited to the following:

    • Repairs and maintains a wide variety of biomedical equipment through assessment, troubleshooting and diagnosis and utilizing a variety of tools (i.e., electronic software, computers, specialized hand, and power tools) to ensure equipment is in safe, effective and secure.
    • Documents work performed, utilizing database management and/or written reports as per department procedure, to ensure appropriate records are maintained to meet hospital needs and regulatory requirements.
    • Participates in the evaluation of and strategic planning for new and replacement medical technology through pre-purchase assessment of medical devices/equipment and evaluation of replacement needs, to ensure that appropriate technologies are utilized in the organization.
    • Educates users on proper use of biomedical equipment and user-type diagnostic procedures through a combination of formal in-services and informal training to ensure that equipment is used appropriately and users can perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting activities.
    • Performs special projects as necessary utilizing specialized knowledge and skills to ensure that department goals are achieved in a cost effective and patient centered manner.
    • Coordinates and collaborates with internal team and customers to deliver a full range of services meeting customer requirements resulting in quality patient care.
    • Acts as a liaison and coordinates outside vendor service, monitors quality of service and communicates progress in an effective manner to customer.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
    • Must be available to respond to emergency repairs outside of normal working schedule.

     

    EDUATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Associate degree in Electronics / Biomedical Technology or Military training or ICC Certification as a Biomedical Technician.
    • Three to five years of experience as a Biomedical Technician or related field within the appropriate discipline.
    • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
