Biomedical Engineering Technician jobs in New London, CT

Biomedical Engineering Technician delivers biomedical equipment services that provide safety testing, repair, maintenance, and user support of biomedical clinical and research equipment. Assembles, installs, repairs, and maintains a variety of medical equipment. Being a Biomedical Engineering Technician tests the functionality of equipment and takes accuracy, sensitivity, and selectivity measurements to calibrate devices. Coordinates with medical staff and vendors to troubleshoot problems, resolve equipment malfunctions and enable new devices. Additionally, Biomedical Engineering Technician supports medical staff with equipment operations training. Typically requires an associate degree. Typically requires Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Biomedical Engineering Technician works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job.   • Performs advanced technical support on installations utilizing work methods. Standard technical work is reviewed on completion. More complex work may be reviewed in progress. Will serve as a team lead on Submarine AIT installations.

    Specific duties include:

    • Responsible for accomplishment of designated tasks as described in specific statements of work.
    • Reviews and verifies engineering drawings, project instructions and blueprints are complete, adequate, compliant, and within appropriate standards and specifications.
    • Assists senior engineering technicians with technical support on advanced or complex installations or tasks.
    • Performs assigned specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, nature of technical problem, and possible solutions such as part redesign, substitution of material or parts, or rearrangement of parts or subassemblies.
    • Ensures tasks are completed within government, military, and or customer standards.
    • Coordinates routine electronic installation activities concerned with development, procurement, installation, and calibration of instruments, equipment, and control devices required to test, record, and reduce test data.
    • May work with engineers, senior engineering technicians, and drafters during the design phase of an installation.
    • May serve as team leader on routine installations. May direct junior technicians and staff assigned to a particular installation or task.
    • Receives initial instructions and advice from senior level engineering technicians.
    • Follows specific layout and diagrams to construct and package simple devices and sub-units of equipment.
    • Performs assigned work independently.
    • Assists with the set up and tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to investigate design proposals for improving equipment performance and other factors, or to obtain data for developments, standardization, and quality control.
    • Responsible for troubleshooting and correcting malfunctions.
    • Reports test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives and modifies or adjusts equipment to meet specifications.
    • Confers with engineering and technical personnel to resolve testing problems such as product or systems malfunctions, and incomplete test data interpretation.
    • May direct all activities of a particular installation or task.
