Biomedical Engineering Technician delivers biomedical equipment services that provide safety testing, repair, maintenance, and user support of biomedical clinical and research equipment. Assembles, installs, repairs, and maintains a variety of medical equipment. Being a Biomedical Engineering Technician tests the functionality of equipment and takes accuracy, sensitivity, and selectivity measurements to calibrate devices. Coordinates with medical staff and vendors to troubleshoot problems, resolve equipment malfunctions and enable new devices. Additionally, Biomedical Engineering Technician supports medical staff with equipment operations training. Typically requires an associate degree. Typically requires Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Biomedical Engineering Technician works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. Biomedical Equipment Technician III / Biomedical Field Technician

  • Will be responsible for the preventive maintenance, repair and technical consulting on a variety of complex critical care and life support medical equipment / devices and other related instrumentation and equipment within assigned territory. Responsible for developing and maintaining schedules and work plans directly with customers in assigned territory. Although most work will be completed at customer’s facility, occasional assignments in the Biomedical Clinical Service Laboratory should be expected.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    Inspect and test malfunctioning medical and related equipment following manufacturers’ specifications, using test and analysis instruments.

    Disassemble malfunctioning equipment and remove, repair and replace defective parts.

    Examine medical equipment and facility’s structural environment and check for proper use of equipment, to protect patients and staff from electrical or mechanical hazards and to ensure compliance with safety regulations.

    Evaluate technical specifications to identify equipment and systems best suited for intended use and possible purchase based on specifications, user needs and technical requirements.

    Keep records of maintenance or service following established procedures.

    Perform preventative maintenance or service such as cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting equipment.

    Test and calibrate components and equipment following manufacturers’ manuals and troubleshooting techniques, using hand tools, power tools and measuring devices.

    Study technical manuals and attend training sessions provided by equipment manufacturers to maintain current knowledge.

    Plan and carry out work assignments, using blueprints, schematic drawings, technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and liquid and air flow sheets, following prescribed regulations, directives, and other instructions as required.

    Research catalogs and repair part lists to locate sources for repair parts, requisitioning parts and recording their receipt.

    Follow inventory control and administrative procedures to insure completeness of all documentation.

    Perform Quality Control, Calibration Verification and testing of all instruments repaired and others as assigned.

    Provide telephone support to customer inquiries.

    Compute power and space requirements for installing medical, or related equipment and install units to manufacturers’ specifications.

    Contact customers with cost estimates and repair suggestions.

    Insure all safety procedures (both patient and employee) are meticulously adhered to.

    Assist in training new employees and other customer personnel upon request.

    Education and/or Experience

    A.S.E.E. or equivalent education is required. Minimum five (5) years experience as Biomedical Field Service Technician, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Anesthesia and Respiratory equipment experience preferred.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $65,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
