Biostatistician conducts statistical studies to generate data and insights used to innovate, plan and support improved healthcare outcomes and processes. Prepares analysis plans to ensure the best statistical methods are developed and utilized. Being a Biostatistician writes specifications for files, consistency checks, tables, and calculations used to collect and analyzes data from a variety of sources. Interprets analyses and prepares exhibits for reports and presentations. Additionally, Biostatistician interfaces with non technical users to assist with data interpretation and understanding of results. Proficient with statistical computer applications like SAS and R. Typically requires a master's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Biostatistician occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     Job Description
    The University of Alabama Birmingham Heersink School of Medicine, Department of Surgery is currently recruiting faculty candidates to be considered for an open rank, open tenure faculty appointment in the Division of Transplantation. The successful candidate will be expected to meet clinical, research and teaching needs, as applicable, in the Department of Surgery. UAB has successfully completed more than 14,000 organ transplants since 1968, when we performed Alabama’s first kidney transplant. Today, our nationally ranked hospital – one of the busiest transplant centers in the nation – performs more than 400 transplants annually, including heart, lung, kidney, pancreas, liver, and intestine transplants, as well as multi-organ procedures. In addition to our focus on patient care, we also provide an environment that supports the education of health professionals and encourages advanced research to further medical science.
    The University of Alabama at Birmingham, one of three autonomous institutions within The University of Alabama System, is the only four-year, public university in the state’s largest metropolitan area. The University spans 100 blocks in the city center with over 250 buildings providing over 13 million feet of assignable space.
    For fiscal year 2021-2022 (most recent available), the University’s economic impact on the Birmingham area exceeds $12.1 billion to the state. In FY2022, UAB received over $715 million in NIH extramural grants and contracts. As of the fall of 2022, the University employed 26,000 people, had a faculty of 3,176 (~45% of whom are female), and had a student enrollment of just under 22,000 at the undergraduate through doctoral levels. The graduate student population is 64% female and 38% are among ethnic minorities.
    UAB is comprised of 10 academic colleges and schools in the health sciences and academic areas. The UAB Academic Health Center includes the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Optometry, Public Health, Health Professions; the Graduate School; and the Lister Hill Library of the Health Sciences.
