Additionally, Boilermaker typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Boilermaker works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.     The Pipefitter / Boilermaker, Rodeo Renewable Energy Complex (Maintenance Mechanic) safely performs any and all work for which qualified, including but not limited to repairing, altering, fabricating, removing, installing, assembling, troubleshooting, and servicing a wide variety of piping and equipment. This equipment includes heat exchangers, boilers, furnaces, fractionation towers, reactors, tanks, structural steel, screwed, welded and flanged piping and tubing. This position uses power and hand tools, such as hack saws, shears, pipe machines, hoists, tuggers, chain blocks, impact wrenches, torque wrenches, grinders and drills. Duties include rigging to lift equipment, planning out work and interpretation of drawings, sketches, job orders and other instructions. This position ensures all maintenance and project work complies with applicable safety, engineering standards, laws, regulations, and meets Company policies, procedures and specifications.

    Responsibilities May Include:
    Actively participates in the safety process. Assures that all work is in compliance with applicable governmental regulations and company policies and procedures.

    Demonstrates a commitment to safety and health excellence through strong personal engagement, recognizing and stopping unsafe behavior, recognizing, and eliminating safety hazards by following safe practices and procedures.

    Reviews work prior to start and has material, resources, information and tools on hand to achieve high levels of craft productivity.

    Develops or modifies maintenance or safety procedures related to maintenance work processes, individually or as part of a team.

    Reviews technical manuals/procedures/specifications, as needed, to perform proper fabrication and repairs.

    Removes and repairs high pressure piping and connection systems.

    Repairs flange leaks, including tightening or replacing bolts, flanges and gaskets.

    Installs pipe, including flanges, unions, joints, gaskets, and nozzles.

    Moves materials, tools, equipment and sub-assemblies using trucks, forklift, wagon, carts, dollies, etc.

    Sets up work site with barriers, signs, tape or flags.

    Blinds off pipes, vessels, tanks, exchangers, etc.

    Prepares schematic drawings, sketches, reports and permits to reflect activities.

    Coordinates work of others, as needed.

    Works overtime, weekends, holidays and varied shifts, when required.

    Breaks down and removes heat exchangers and/or heat exchanger components.

    Fabricates and installs screwed piping.

    Perform carpentry duties inside shop or in the field as assigned, including walls, floors, and door frames; install structures and fixtures; measure, cut, and shape wood, plastic, and other materials such as CPVC as needed.

    Required Qualifications:
    Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions

    Maintain a valid driver's license

    High School Diploma or GED equivalent

    Must possess a valid Transportation Workers' Identification Credential (TWIC) or qualify for a TWIC card by start date. More information can be found at https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic

    Working knowledge of established CWS and NDE requirements and practices

    5 or more years petroleum/chemical refinery experience (or 4 years military experience), with emphasis in assembly, disassembly and repair of screwed/welded piping systems and related equipment such as distillation/fractionation columns, fired heaters, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, reactors, and tanks

    5 or more years of direct experience performing work as a boilermaker or pipefitter craft in an industrial environment

    Knowledge and industrial experience in heavy equipment rigging and safe transportation practices

    Working knowledge in the selection and use of proper Pipefitting/Carpentry tools required to perform disassembly/repair/assembly of refinery equipment

    Must be willing and able, with or without accommodation, to perform/comply with the following:

    Work overtime (including weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts)

    Be on call and respond to after hour callouts due to business necessity

    Lift up to 50 pounds

    Work in enclosed spaces such as tanks and silos

    Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines

    Climb up to 200 feet in height; work at elevated heights

    Work around chemicals, including acids and bases

    Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toed shoes, ear/eye protection)

    Maintain facial hair daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (clean shaven); employee should havee xperience working while in supplied air in confined spaces

    Work outside in inclement weather conditions

    Read, follow, and understand (in English) schematics, drawings, Material reqs and P&ID's

    Qualify and join the refinery hazmat team and attend quarterly training

    Remove basic insulation

    Respond to unit upsets, weather events, and/or process leaks in emergency conditions

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Journey-level certification in boilermaker/pipefitter disciplines from either a registered apprenticeship program or NCCER training program

    Associate’s degree in a field of applied industrial mechanics/Engineering discipline/welding or extensive knowledge of TA execution roles

    Ability to clearly document complex mechanical inspection and repair information desired

    Computer proficiency in Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook

    Knowledge of SAP, IPS, and other CMMS systems

    Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills

    Proactive, self-motivated, results-oriented

    Ability to interact with all levels of the organization, diverse groups and support crafts

    Compensation

    The base pay range for this position is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Currently, this range is $35.83/hour to $55.13/hour (fully qualified journeyman) based upon qualifications. All rates are scheduled to increase by 3.5% in February 2025. This position has a 7.5% Variable Cash Incentive Program target, 8% 401k match, and Cash Balance Account pension.
