General Description
This position involves performing payroll responsibilities such as verifying time sheets to ensure accuracy, entering time sheets into the MIP Payroll module, calculating and transferring the payroll data to the MIP accounting module.
Prepares and prints payroll checks every pay period. This position also involves answering questions and solving payroll issues in a timely manner.
Examples of Work Performed
Responsible for verifying and entering time sheets every pay period into the MIP Payroll Module.
Responsible for calculating and transferring the employee payroll into the MIP Accounting Module and prepares employee payroll checks.
Responsible for entering employee information and / or making changes into the payroll module as instructed and submitted by the Personnel Department via Personnel Action (PA) form.
Calculates and makes payments to the Internal Revenue Service for employee social security taxes (FICA), federal income taxes (FIT), and Medicare taxes.
Prepares journal entries for approval by the supervisor to record payroll taxes every pay period.
Prepares journal entries for approval by the supervisor to record insurance collections and makes insurance deposits as needed.
Posts approved journal entries into the general ledger.
Assists the Finance Director in completing and submitting the Employers Quarterly Federal Tax Return Form 941 to the Internal Revenue Service.
Responsible for all the payroll accounts payables, i.e., insurance, pension, loans, bankruptcy, workers' compensation, unemployment, child support, school loans, etc.
Responsible for calculating the payroll amount needed for the requisition of funds from the Department of Health and Human Services.
Assists in calculating the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA).
Prepares payroll reports as requested by the Finance Director and Finance Assistant.
Monitors all accounts in the payroll fund.
Assists in the preparation of the W-2's.
Works closely with independent auditors and consultants regarding payroll issues.
Must attend all trainings deemed necessary by Executive Director to comply with TDFPS Child Care Minimum Standards and Performance Standards during the summer months.
Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or Executive Director.
Education and Experience
Must be Bilingual (English / Spanish).
Requires 2-5 years experience in payroll bookkeeping and / or related field.
Must have knowledge in preparing, reporting, and recording of employment taxes and submits payments every pay period to the Internal Revenue Service.
Must be able to analyze and process employer benefits and employee deductions efficiently and must be able to produce employee reports and schedules.
Must have an automobile and current liability insurance for work related travel.
