General Description:
The Bookkeeper, reporting to the Finance Director and/or Executive Director must have a proven understanding of the not-for-profit industry, QuickBooks Online, Office 365 apps (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.), and GAAP
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Maintain the chart of accounts
· Demonstrate a strong understanding of QuickBooks Online for Nonprofits and demonstrate proficiency in the use of various software functionality including classes, jobs, projects, items etc.
· Maintain an orderly accounting filing system (imperative for support of grant reporting and year-end audit process)
· Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and the application of these principles to not-for-profit organizations (i.e., understanding unrestricted vs. temporarily restricted net assets)
· Recording cash receipts and assistance in preparing bank deposits
· Recording vendor invoices in a timely manner and maintaining AP ledger
· Recognizing and where appropriate recording other prepaid assets and/or accrued liabilities
· Coordinate with Director of Finance and Grants Administrator to ensure grant and contract revenue is recognized accurately
· Review of payroll information provided by outside service provider and recording of that information into the general ledger to ensure payroll costs and related taxes and tax liabilities are appropriately reflected
· Perform monthly reconciliations on all financial cash accounts
· At year-end, assist in assembling information for the external financial statement audit and preparation of the related annual tax filing (Form 990)
· Additional tasks and special projects as needed
Knowledge and Skills:
· Demonstrate understanding of GAAP; QuickBooks Online; understand aspects of accounting for non-profits
· Minimum accounting/QuickBooks certification or relevant work experience
· Knowledge of Office 365 accounting, spreadsheet and word processing software.

Performance Evaluation:
The Bookkeeper will meet regularly with the Finance Director and will receive a formal evaluation on an annual basis.
