    The University of Washington College of Education continues to deepen its research practice community partnerships in Washington State to address pervasive systemic and institutional inequities, disproportionately impacting communities of color, low-income families, and students. Launched in 2017, Unite:Ed is an alliance between the University of Washington College of Education and community-based education partners. In collaboration with communities experiencing structural inequity in education, we join together to exchange knowledge and co-design justice centered strategies that improve educational systems broadly defined and create better futures for children and youth.

    Reporting to the Associate Dean of Research, the Unite:Ed Director will drive early relationship-building, partner agreements and maintenance, and research support. As part of this effort the Director duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Create, grow, and manage internal network of College of Education faculty, staff, and students whose work/projects fit within Unite:Ed’s mission

    • Oversee and manage regular communications about Unite:Ed activities and invitations to participate in the network.
    • Synergize potential collaborations between COE faculty/staff/students and community partners.
    • Support existing partnerships by helping them negotiate agreements and establish roles for working together.
    • Help create routines and structures that allow the stakeholders of the partnership to operationalize the research, discuss and share findings with relevant researchers, practitioners, and policymakers.
    • Track existing work/projects that fit within Unite:Ed’s mission and serve as a convener for future possibilities.
    • Represent the College of Education at university-wide community partnership meetings (i.e., Carnegie Community Partners).
    • Collaborate with COE community-engaged/service-learning programs and services including but not limited to ECO Advisory Board.

    Grow and manage external network of community/district partners who share Unite:Ed’s mission

    • Pursue new external relationships with community and district partners to advance Unite:Ed’s reach and impact.
    • Nurture existing relationships with community and district partners.
    • Engage with and maintain the Unite:Ed Advisory Committee’s ongoing participation.
    • Support Advancement/fundraising responsibilities in partnership with the Dean and the College’s Advancement Team to support Unite:Ed projects and infrastructure.
    • Collaborate with the communications team to showcase Unite:Ed’s reach and impact in our region and beyond.
    • Create and manage funding opportunities through grant writing, etc. in partnership with the Associate Dean of Research.
    • Cultivate funding opportunities with foundations and donors in partnership with the College’s Advancement Team.

    Manage initiatives that are launched under the Unite:Ed umbrella

    • Oversee and manage the Community Partner Fellows (CPF) program’s application process, recruit community partner organizations, work with doctoral students selected as CPF’s, faculty, and host partners to ensure clear communication regarding expectations and successful partnerships and outcomes.
    • Work with College of Education staff (faculty, Assistant Dean of Finance and Administration, HR) to manage and grow the model.
    • Collaborate with the Research Practice Partnership (RPP) Infrastructure’s Faculty Liaison to envision and enact infrastructure and activities to further the development and sustainability of RPPs.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    Master’s degree in Education or related field to include three to five years of experience with leadership of an educational or non-profit program

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Demonstrated ability to establish, cultivate and steward strong relationships with community organizations, and schools to build and maintain partnerships and trust.
    • A deep understanding and knowledge of the prevailing issues impacting university-community partnership building and collaborations, educational justice across a variety of contexts, and college access opportunities.
    • Demonstrated ability to listen to, understand, and articulate the challenges faced by people from and living in historically under-resourced communities.
    • Demonstrated ability to articulate a common compelling vision around which University members, municipal government leaders, community organizations, and philanthropists can cohere.
    • Proven leadership, team building and problem-solving capability.
    • Excellent oral and written skills and demonstrated ability to communicate with partners and all levels of University faculty and staff.
    • Demonstrated strengths in organization and prioritization.
    • Demonstrated leadership related to communication (e.g., tact, diplomacy, discretion, sensitivity, and confidentiality) with internal and external stakeholder groups.
    • Possesses a high level of accountability, drives for results, displays a sense of ownership, and is passionate about attaining goals and surpassing expectations.
    • Experience in generating funding opportunities including grant writing and cultivating funder relations.
