Budget Director directs and controls an organization's budgeting and financial forecasting activities. Leads the budgeting process for annual, quarterly, and monthly budget development. Being a Budget Director develops budgetary policies and guidelines to meet short and long-term financial goals. Establishes processes to incorporate past financial results into budget development. Additionally, Budget Director monitors and analyzes performance against budgets. Develops and implements tools and reporting used for planning, forecasting, monitoring, and decision support. Presents budget data to senior management and/or board. May require a MBA. Typically reports to top management. The Budget Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Brief Description
The purpose of this position is to facilitate and oversee the annual budget and long-range financial planning process for the Brazos River Authority (BRA). This is accomplished by working with BRA staff to compile, review, verify and present the annual operating budgets for all departments, and the capital budgets for all planned projects, to management and customers; incorporating the data from the operating and capital budgets into the BRA's Long Range Financial Planning model; creating new financial models as needed to evaluate business segments and proposals; maintaining and improving budget preparation tools; supervising staff; performing administrative functions; responding to requests for information from customers; and directing the overall budget process for the BRA. Other responsibilities include preserving and verifying the accuracy of financial transactions by assisting in general ledger maintenance; monitoring budget performance; preparing monthly, quarterly, annual, and on-demand budget reports for customers, managers, and the Board of Directors; preparing budget amendments and transfers as necessary to accommodate changes and unforeseen circumstances; assisting the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and co-workers with projects or tasks to ensure goals and deadlines are met; and any other duties as assigned.
