BUILDING INSPECTOR inspects initial construction and additional repairs to ensure adherence to contract specifications, building ordinances, and zoning laws. Building Combination Inspector

    Education and Experience: A high school diploma, GED, or higher and two (2) years of journey, master, or supervisory level building trades experience, or two (2) years of code compliance experience.
     
    Licenses and Certificates: Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state.

    Applicant must have at least three of the following required certifications at time of application: International Code Council (ICC) Certification as a Residential Building, Residential Electrical, Residential Plumbing and Residential Mechanical Inspector or higher.  

    Plumbing Inspector License from the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners and additional required certification must be obtained within one (1) year of appointment. Submission of application to the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners is required within six (6) months of appointment.
     
    Under general supervision, conduct field inspections of residential buildings to ensure conformance with applicable structural, electrical, mechanical, gas and plumbing codes.
    Perform on-site inspections of residential construction for compliance with approved plans, specifications and applicable local, state and national codes, regulations and standards governing construction, alteration and repair of structural, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical system in buildings. Involves: scheduling initial and follow-up inspections; reviewing plans and specifications in preparation for conducting inspection; investigating complaints to determine existence of illegal or hazardous conditions in new or existing residential structures; informing property owners and contractors of violations and unacceptable layouts, materials, and equipment; issuing red tags, correction notices, stop work orders and citations as appropriate when construction does not conform to code or approved plans; explaining code and design requirements and restrictions, and construction corrections necessary for compliance; assuring construction is being performed by licensed contractors under City issued permits.

    Perform related duties as required. Involves: keeping abreast of code and policy changes; maintaining daily log; assisting in training departmental personnel on technical aspects of inspection, and code interpretation and enforcement. Testify in court and before City boards and Commissions, as required.

    Applicant must have at least three of the following required International Code Council (ICC) Certifications at the time of hire:

    Important Note: The required Supplemental Questions and answers are considered an examination component and will generate a score.  
     

    Applicants are being tested on a conditional basis pending a review of minimum qualifications. Applications will be reviewed for applicants who pass the Supplemental Questions exam.
     
    Per CSC Rules & Regulations, after review of the minimum qualifications for applicants that pass the Supplemental Questions exam, a passing score, combined with applicable seniority points and veteran points, will be used to create a list of candidates.
