- Building Codes Inspector Level II – Grade 73; Annual starting salary $52,053.14
- Building Codes Inspector Level III – Grade 74; Annual starting salary $54,655.80
- Building Codes Inspector Level IV – Grade 76; Annual starting salary $60,258.02
Example of Duties
Under occasional supervision, inspects building construction and existing structures for compliance with applicable electrical codes and ordinances. Reviews plot plans and building plans to ensure code specifications. Performs related work as required. Employee must exercise considerable tact, courtesy and firmness in dealing with contractors, property owners and the general public. Reports to the Community Development Administrator.
Education and Experience- Associate’s or Technical degree; 3 years of experience in electrical, building inspection or construction, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Valid North Carolina driver’s license required upon hire and duration of employment. Out of state driver’s license will be accepted only if the individual is a permanent resident of that state.
- If employee does not have a Level I certification, trainee status will be applied until the employee obtains the following:
- Standard Level I Certification issued by the North Carolina Code Officials Qualification Board in any of the following areas: electrical, building (includes energy insulation), mechanical or plumbing inspections within 3 years of employment. Probationary certificate in all other areas will be issued by the department of Inspections.
- While employee is in trainee status, employee will be paid at grade 71. Starting salary for grade 71 is $47,213.74. Once the certification is obtained, employee will move to grade 72.
- Must take and successfully pass a pre-employment drug test, Motor Vehicle Records driver license check, as well as submit to random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing. A criminal background check must be completed by the County of Robeson for potential applicants.
