Building and Grounds Supervisor supervises and trains building and grounds maintenance staff. Oversees landscaping activities, the maintenance of sidewalks and parking areas, and the removal of trash and snow. Being a Building and Grounds Supervisor maintains and monitors the operation of all utility systems such as heating, ventilating and air conditioning. May be responsible for the housekeeping staff. Additionally, Building and Grounds Supervisor, a level I supervisor is considered a working supervisor with little authority for personnel actions. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team. Suggests improvements to process, is a knowledge resource for other team members. Has no authority for staff actions. Generally has a minimum of 2 years experience as an individual contributor. 1. 1. Mow and detail all district grounds, including athletic fields
2. Follow scheduled maintenance plan to care for lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers by watering, pruning, fertilizing, mulching, caring for beds, and controlling weeds
3. Plant shrubs and vegetation
4. Assist with the preparation of athletic fields for games, including chalking fields
5. Collect and dispose of leaves, dirt, rubbish, and refuse from district facilities
6. Assist with the inspection, repair, and installation of sprinkler systems
7. Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing
8. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor
9. Help keep vehicle, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition
10. Inspect and adjust tools and equipment for safety and efficiency and perform preventive maintenance as needed
11. Transport workers and equipment to work sites throughout the district
12. Maintain fenced enclosures on campuses and assigned areas
13. Assist in re-striping of parking lots and curbs using brush or motor driven painting equipment
14. Accomplish minor landscaping, tree trimming, stump removal, etc.
15. Pick-up and delivery of supplies and materials pertinent to grounds maintenance and other craft areas
16. Assist in other craft areas when necessary in a spirit of teamwork and corporation
17. Operate vehicles, tractor and motor-driven push and riding mowers
18. Perform all other duties as assigned by Grounds Lead Person and/or supervisor
19. Use care when working around existing gas, water and electric utility systems. Immediately report to your supervisor and the Facilities office any damage done to utility components.
