Building and Grounds Supervisor supervises and trains building and grounds maintenance staff. Oversees landscaping activities, the maintenance of sidewalks and parking areas, and the removal of trash and snow. Being a Building and Grounds Supervisor maintains and monitors the operation of all utility systems such as heating, ventilating and air conditioning. May be responsible for the housekeeping staff. Additionally, Building and Grounds Supervisor, a level I supervisor is considered a working supervisor with little authority for personnel actions. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team. Suggests improvements to process, is a knowledge resource for other team members. Has no authority for staff actions. Generally has a minimum of 2 years experience as an individual contributor. Job Responsibilities:
The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina is seeking to fill a Building/Grounds Specialist III in the Facilities & Engineering Department. Under the supervision of the Grounds shop head and Assistant shop head; this position shall supervise and perform various grounds related tasks using related equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
A High School Diploma OR GED equivalent is required. Must have two(2) years of relevant experience in grounds maintenance and operating grounds related equipment to include; weed eaters, mowers and blowers required. Must be able to follow written and oral instructions. Working knowledge of grounds keeping and horticultural practices. Ability to supervise the work of other employees. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with crew and other grounds personnel. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to make minor adjustments/repairs to grounds related equipment.
Employee must possess a valid SC driver’s license OR be able to obtain one within 30 days of hire. Employee must be able to stoop, kneel, bend and lift heavy objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds. Employee must be able to perform all related job duties in all weather conditions. Some weekend work mandatory. Will be scheduled when possible. Employee must be self-motivated and be able to work under limited supervision. Employee must be or become familiar with all related grounds equipment used in department. Employee must possess Citadel approved fork lift certification within 90 days of hire, or as training is available. Employee must be aerial lift certified within six months of hire, or as training is available.
