Building and Grounds Supervisor supervises and trains building and grounds maintenance staff. Oversees landscaping activities, the maintenance of sidewalks and parking areas, and the removal of trash and snow. Being a Building and Grounds Supervisor maintains and monitors the operation of all utility systems such as heating, ventilating and air conditioning. May be responsible for the housekeeping staff. Additionally, Building and Grounds Supervisor, a level I supervisor is considered a working supervisor with little authority for personnel actions. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team. Suggests improvements to process, is a knowledge resource for other team members. Has no authority for staff actions. Generally has a minimum of 2 years experience as an individual contributor. Facilities Department consists of three main sub-groups, Grounds, Custodial and Maintenance.
Organizes and inspects ground maintenance efforts in coordination with others. Supervises team and assists in coordinating all snow and ice management operations, special events, overtime activities, and athletic events. Maintains inventory and equipment upkeep, submits purchase requests, and maintains logs and records.
Supervisory, organizational, and communication skills. Technical expertise related to grounds management & athletic field management during all four seasons. A Certified Commercial Pesticide Applicator's license is required thru the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Categories to include; 7 - Lawns & Turf, 6 - Ornamentals & Shade Trees, 23 - Parks & Schools. The supervisor is responsible for training & re-certifying all groundskeepers as Registered Technicians. The supervisor is responsible for updating all materials required by the PA Dept. of Agriculture.
Position requires constant mobility in four season weather conditions. A broad variety of campus landscape conditions must be negotiated. Extensive walking, some climbing of ladders, and bending for work inspections can be expected.
