Business Analytics Director manages and oversees business analytics projects and processes to provide data-driven insights related to business performance used to advise and develop strategies for operational improvements and future business initiatives. Utilizes KPIs, business performance data, industry trends, competitor intelligence, and customer information to develop analytical tools, reports, and models across the organization to inform and support decision-making. Being a Business Analytics Director consults with stakeholders to understand the business model, objectives, issues, and challenges that analytics can support. Develops standards and collection processes to support robust analytics and reporting data pipelines. Additionally, Business Analytics Director builds teams with statistical methods, modeling, analytical methodologies, and data analysis skills to support the business. Requires a bachelor's degree in finance, statistics or a quantitative field. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Business Analytics Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Business Analytics Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     Position Summary

    This position will provide enterprise-wide operational leadership for data management, governance, analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) for Gray Construction and for the Gray, Inc family of companies.  This role is responsible for running an effective governance structure by partnering with Gray’s leadership, subject matter experts and data stewards to continue and revise as necessary the data governance strategy and implement the strategy enterprise-wide.  This includes leading and enabling data management best practices, identifying common tools and frameworks, and partnering with Gray’s functional information groups to ensure a cohesive/integrated execution of the organization’s data governance, analytics and artificial intelligence strategy that meets Gray’s business and customer needs.

     

    With the goal of improving the integrity and processes surrounding data management as well as increasing Gray’s maturity level with enterprise-wide data management and analytics, this position will work with the Chief Information Officer, other IT management as well as other business analysts and business leaders to assess corporate data management and identify pain points for capabilities including data quality, governance, architecture, analytics, metadata management, master data management, etc.   this position will also drive best practices for solution development internally in Information Services to keep a process and data centric approach to all solutions and applying the right technology to solve problems as a secondary means to support the business process with the cleanest data outcomes.  Additionally, this position will help co-create with the CIO the strategy and corresponding execution of Gray’s artificial intelligence implementation.  As a result, this position will find solutions and lead projects to implement improvements in the above identified areas.

     

    Who we want… (Requirements)

    • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university required.
    • Minimum of ten years of experience working experience in data analytics, data warehousing or any data management discipline.
    • A minimum of five years of management experience.
    • Experience with managing a DQM platform preferred
    • Experience with data governance program design and implementation in complex environments
    • Experience with identifying and resolving data quality issues
    • Experience with mass data cleansing initiatives
    • Familiarity with artificial intelligence, generative AI and implementations in some form at least at the pilot level
    • Technical project management and team coordination experience
    • Technically savvy with a solid understanding of database concepts, functional software setups and business processes
    • Results orientated individual with the ability to deliver quality, on-time results
    • Must have a willingness to educate their coworkers, have patience and the capability to support end-users
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
    • Must be well organized, efficient, detail-oriented, and able to work independently as well as a member of a team
    • Demonstrate a rigorous, and analytical problem-solving approach, leading information gathering sessions and deliver results

    What we expect… (Essential Functions)

    • Analyze the current state and then define desired future state view of Gray's data governance and analytics capabilities as well as AI readiness; this will include recommendations for business capabilities, organizational adjustments and technical components to support data governance; and data integrity and availability for analytics and AI.
    • Provide thought leadership, frameworks, best practices required to deliver effective data governance solutions
    • Educate and train departments and personnel on the usage of data and the resulting importance and impact of data integrity and organization at Gray
    • Collaborate with Information Technology management and business analysts and management to identify and define improvement opportunities to enterprise processes and systems with the goal of improving data integrity throughout the organization; research the implications across the business for such changes and then design, implement, communicate and document those solutions if adopted.
    • Identify and ensure the resolution of data quality issues, such as uniqueness, integrity, accuracy, consistency, and completeness in a cost-effective and timely fashion.
    • Identify poor data practices, causes of poor data quality and implement solutions and communicate findings to employees, management, and stakeholders.
    • Devise, coordinate, and lead mass data-cleansing initiatives for the purpose of purging and eliminating corrupt, duplicate or redundant information from corporate databases
    • Develop and enforce methods and validation mechanisms for ensuring data quality and accuracy at the point of entry
    • Represent a holistic and enterprise-wide viewpoint when evaluating, implementing and supporting enterprise and cross departmental data flows.  
    • Manage and govern Gray’s data sharing strategy with the external data ecosystem with Gray’s business partners world-wide.
    • Responsible for organizing and leading a team of Data Stewards in establishing, maintaining and communicating data standards to the broader organization
    • Oversees all activities and functions of a staff involved with data management, analytics and artificial intelligence.
    • Responsible for the evaluation, implementation, testing and training of process and systems enhancements/implementations for data governance and/or analytics projects at Gray.
    • Assumes responsibility for acquiring and maintaining ongoing knowledge of existing business processes at Gray that support data collection and consumption for customers, and other critical data points.
    • Responsible for all aspects of project management to implement changes, including analyzing business requirements, defining solutions, writing proposals, estimating project budgets, performing project planning and prioritization, clear project communication and change management.
    • Follow internal standards, system integration and security practices, and document changes and enhancements.
    • Other duties as assigned.
