    As directed by the Ministry Chief Executive and in collaboration with the California Region Chief Strategy Officer (CSO), The Director Business Development will be responsible for developing and implementing key strategic healthcare value initiatives which drive Ministry growth and profitability and include: integrated delivery operations, development and implementation of service lines and care delivery in existing and contiguous markets, growth of existing targeted services, identification and evaluation of launching new business opportunities and the development of new physician services initiatives, including Providence St. Joseph Health affiliated physician integrated delivery operations. The position will serve as a physician advocate and ombudsman developing and managing communication between physicians and Ministry sites and services. The Director will develop and build strong physician relationships PSJH medical groups, IPA's, community providers and health plans to grow existing programs.

    In collaboration with Ministry Leadership and regional strategy, this position will lead the development and implementation of the Ministry's strategic plan and annual growth goals.

    The Director Business Development advises hospital executives and physician leaders on the potential of new product lines/services that address the continuum of care (wellness, outpatient and inpatient) based on knowledge of market and industry trends. This role will encompass developing business plans, operating and capital budgets, variance type analysis, implementation plans, marketing strategies, and dashboards/balanced scorecards to measure performance including volume, quality, customer satisfaction and financial indicators.

    In partnership with regional strategy, this position develops opportunities for Provider Relations team to conduct physician outreach in which to assess growth and areas of service enhancement to and align services which on physician growth goals.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • With Ministry and Medical Staff leadership, develops, implements, and monitors physician alignment, integration, recruitment and retention plans consistent with community need, to fulfill ED Panel requirements, to support existing physician practice growth, succession/transition planning and geographic expansion, and to support Ministry’s strategic priorities including ambulatory and medical office building development in existing and new geographic markets. Partners with regional strategy to ensure success of physician relations team in business growth objectives. Oversees retention and recruitment of excellent physician partners that enhance the quality of clinical care provided to ministries we serve. Partners with key stakeholders to promote consumer marketing strategies based on assessment of community needs that support physician practice and clinical program growth.

    • Identifies, evaluates, develops and implements new business growth opportunities. Ensures new programs and financial indicators are in place to enable the successful transition and hand-off to the operational management team. With the assistance and guidance of the CSO, Service Line Directors and regional strategy, ensures the establishment of comprehensive and collaborative business plans, operating and capital budgets, variance analyses, implementation plans, business case, marketing strategies, and dashboards/balanced scorecards that measure performance, including volume, quality outcomes, patient and physician satisfaction, financial outcomes (including ROI for new technologies and programs), and other relevant metrics for physicians, medical groups/IPAs.

    • Collaborates with Hospital Administration, Contracting, regional strategy and others to identify and develop relationships with new Medical Groups/IPAs that diversify Ministry’s managed care and physician portfolio and expands the referral base for our services. Establishes and facilitates referral relationships between primary care physicians, specialists, physician organizations and orthopedic and other specialties.

    • Maintains awareness of all major competitors, current market positions, rates, service levels, financial positions and operating strategies. Establishes and maintains appropriate contacts within specified external organizations. Assists in identifying, attaining contracts and facilitated growth related to various clinical institutes.

    • Develops relationships within and outside Providence St. Joseph Health for the formation of a service line continuum of care for Ministry through various Ministry key constituencies such as patient and community, physicians, PH&S, competitors, and payors. Works collaboratively with physician leadership in all aspects of service line development. Ensures alignment and support of strategic priorities, maintaining strong, collaborative relationships in order to better understand the needs, requirements or other factors to service line programs.

    • Integrates the alignment of service line objectives and operational goals into Ministry strategic and financial planning using business case and market assessments. Works with Marketing & Public Relations to develop a marketing approach and plan for new services, which supports physician practice and clinical program growth. Collaborates with Service Line Directors and Managed Care to identify opportunities with health plans, medical groups and IPAs to drive new business, including “Center of Excellence” contracts and new payment models.

    • Monitor and educate Ministry leadership regarding payer mix, including Managed Care, Service Line trends.

    • Responsible, in collaboration with Executive Team, to formulate a plan consistent with the regional ISFP and will serve, along with CFO of the ministry as well as regional strategy and Finance, as the key coordinator of the capital approval process with the Region and CSIC.

    • Represents Ministry and the Providence St. Joseph Health System in public settings. Serves as a central point of coordination with the Region and System for the deployment of the ambulatory care network assets (urgent cares, imaging centers, retail, other system partnerships) at each of the ministries.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Master's Degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Marketing, Clinical Science, or related field (preferred); or equivalent education/experience

    • 7 years of progressive management experience; leadership of major clinical operations

    • Significant experience leading teams, process group facilitation, project management, and building management systems

    • 7 years of management experience in health care business development, strategic planning and marketing

    • 5 years of physician and medical group integration experience (preferred)

    • 3 years of experience preparing detailed business plans and pro formas

    • 2 years of demonstrated experience with overall business analysis including marketing, quality and financial data (preferred)

    • Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare market research, program development, business modeling and marketing

    • Ability to establish strong team relationships and build trust and open communication with executives, managers, physicians, and caregivers in a highly matrixed organization

    • Demonstrated ability to lead assessment, analysis, design, and decision of strategic issues using participative planning and decision-making processes

    • Current knowledge of trends and developments in healthcare organizations, functions, and processes

    • Advanced analytical, planning and problem-solving skills. Ability to conduct strategic analysis, inclusive of the development of financial models and internal/external research to support business decisions. Ability to deal with a multiplicity of complex situations simultaneously

    • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills that enable partnership with senior executives, boards, physicians, employees, community members/groups and outside vendors. Able to articulate business models and plans to various stakeholder groups

    • Ability to manage change, promote positive interpersonal relations, and an understanding of physician alignment techniques and programs

    • In-depth knowledge of state and federal regulations for physician recruitment to ensure compliance with all regulatory guidelines
