Business Intelligence Director directs a business intelligence group centered on providing insight and aiding in business decision-making. Oversees the planning of projects to produce reports and perform meaningful quantitative or qualitative analyses addressing impactful business issues or questions. Being a Business Intelligence Director collaborates with other departments to identify and generate potential business intelligence initiatives, and ensures that business intelligence analysts have the tools, training, and understanding of the field to produce effective dashboards, reports, and metrics. Makes resource allocation and staffing decisions. Additionally, Business Intelligence Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Business Intelligence Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Business Intelligence Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Business Intelligence Analyst (Remote) - Clinical Data Management

  • Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, Public Health, business, healthcare administration or related field or equivalent and six (6) or more years of relevant work experience required, including extensive experience using SQL to query, manipulate, and organize data from relational databases.

     

    Job Summary:

    The Business Intelligence Analyst is responsible for providing meaning to the data in UTMB systems and developing methods to leverage that data in UTMB applications. Responsibilities include standardizing and cleaning data, building prediction models, modeling outcomes, and developing metrics for complex data analysis projects that can be multi-disciplinary or interdepartmental. Addresses data requirements for analytic reporting and operating areas with expertise in specific data systems and/or analytical methodologies. Works with expert proficiency with a variety of tools (ex: SQL, Excel, Tableau, etc.) to extract data, write queries, develop programming logic, run reports, manipulate data, and analyze datasets to meet the needs of the organization. 

     

    Preferred Qualifications: 

    •      Highly Desirable: Strong SQL development and performance tuning skills.  Experience building complex queries on clinical data models.
    •       Knowledge and familiarity with Epic Clarity and Caboodle 

    Job Duties: 

    • Serves as a technical lead for compiling, cleaning, manipulating, and analyzing data related to Patient Safety, Quality, and Patient Experience projects. Diagnoses and responds to data integrity and functional or interactive issues in data extract queries and dashboards quickly and effectively.
    • Collects, aggregates, and analyzes data from multiple internal and external sources to drive insights into business performance. Utilizes business intelligence tools to create reports and dashboards, and produces actionable reports that show key performance indicators, identify areas of improvement into current operations, and display root cause analysis of problems.
    • Develops summaries of findings and recommends actions; drives business decisions by providing quantitative and qualitative data analysis and reporting of patterns, insights, and trends to decision-makers.
    • Develop, implement, and validate new predictive models, conduct QA of models’ outcomes and monitor performance regularly.
    • Uses analytics and metrics to improve processes and provide data-driven forecasts of potential costs, risks, and profits of new business initiatives.
    • Works with internal clients to develop and translate business requirements into project charters, and business and technical requirements, and ultimately produce effective and insightful interactive analytics.
    • Formulates validation strategies and methods to ensure accurate and reliable data.
    • Serves as technical lead and expert and provides guidance to team members.  
    • Perform other similar and related duties as required or directed. 

     

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

    • Strong critical thinking skills to help predict the needs of various business units and leaders across UTMB rather than require them to provide detailed  prescriptive direction.
    • Deep knowledge and familiarity with business intelligence tools such as Microsoft BI, Qlik or Tableau to design and develop reporting analytics and  visualizations.
    • Deep knowledge and familiarity with Microsoft Office suite software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio, etc.).
    • Interpersonal and communication skills to effectively work and communicate with others.
    • Ability to quickly and demonstrate proficiency in new software tools.
    • Analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to document work and communicate progress to others.
    • Ability to function with moderate supervision in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to be detailed and accurate. 

     Salary Range: 

    Actual salary commensurate with experience.

     

    Work Schedule: 

    Remote, but on-site as needed. Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm and as needed on occasion.
