Business Intelligence Developer / Business Intelligence Engineer
  • Valve and Meter
  • Indianapolis, IN FULL_TIME
  • In a Nutshell

Valve Meter is searching for a Business Intelligence Developer to join our Analytics & Insights team tasked with using data to drive action and growth for our clients and organization. Analytics and insights are only as strong as the underlying data that powers them, so we are looking for an expert in modeling, engineering, analyzing, and communicating data effectively.

    Why this Role is Important

Valve Meter is a high performance marketing agency that utilizes data to make informed business decisions. Everything we do relies on effective and efficient flows of clean data to drive action and create transformational growth. The Business Intelligence Developer will lead in designing, optimizing, and owning Valve Meter's data pipelines, tables, and warehouses.

You love all things data and analytics and thrive where "the rubber meets the road" in turning vision into reality. We strive to be the team that can "figure anything out" and are looking for someone with a knack for solving complex problems and an endless desire to learn.

    Responsibilities

    • Model, extract, and ingest data from various systems and methods, including flat files, APIs, and databases.

    • Create effective and efficient data pipelines and ETL flows that allow analytics to drive actionable insights.

    • Take business requirements and vision and transform them into effective data solutions.

    • Develop dashboards to communicate insights and drive action by using data to tell a story rather than simply showing charts.

    • Design and development of automated solutions for recurring reporting and in-depth analysis.

    About Us

We've named our practice Valve Meter because the variables we can manage with you are the flow and cost of new business. The "valve" part of our approach manages the right rate of new business for your operation, and we set our pricing with you not based on the activities we pursue but on the "metered" results we generate.

    Core Values

    • Think: Focus. Find a way forward.

    • Love: Act in the long-term best interest of another.

    • Serve: Meet expectations. Go the extra mile.

    • Transform: Create dramatic change. Be irreplaceable.

    • Be Just: Be fair and transparent. Do no harm.

    • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field, such as computer science or mathematics

    • 4 years relevant experience in business intelligence and/or data engineering, including:
      • Demonstrated experience using data to create and deliver insights

      • Creating effective and efficient data pipelines and tables in a cloud environment such as GCP or AWS

      • Hands-on experience with a BI tool such as Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, or Domo

    • Strong SQL knowledge and experience:
      • Creating practical tables and views

      • Optimizing queries for performance

      • Writing complex queries to meet any reporting requirements

    • Working data from complex APIs, both REST and GraphQL

    • Transforming data from disparate systems into a unified source that drives action

    Preferred:

    • Experience working at a marketing agency

    • Experience driving change in a BI capacity

    • Knowledge of digital marketing campaigns, SEO strategies, and marketing measurement

    • Data ETL Tools like Airbyte of Fivetran

    • Python

    • Google Analytics, Google Ads, Microsoft Ads
