This is professional and technical work conducting detailed research and analysis of confidential intelligence and investigative information relating to criminal activity to assist and enhance the effectiveness of law enforcement. Work may include investigating confidential intelligence information such as financial transactions and related business records; compiling, analyzing and disseminating criminal activity information (in the form of bulletins, intelligence reports, etc.); coordinating the exchange of interstate and intrastate information pertaining to criminal activity, syndicated criminal movement and terrorism related incidents; and preparing written reports requiring thorough analysis and evaluation of intelligence and investigative information. Work requires intricate knowledge of social media; usage of multiple law enforcement databases; the collection of data from other government sources; and the ability to manipulate large quantities of raw data via spreadsheets or database creation. Work includes providing information to assist operations personnel in the identification of specific crime problems (crime patterns/sprees/series) and suspect leads; forecasting future crime occurrences; developing target profile analyses; furnishing support data to community policing and crime prevention programs; and providing data to support departmental planning activities, deployment planning, resource allocation, and budgeting activities. Work also involves examining existing incident characteristics; identifying modus operandi; and identifying pre-incident indicators and characteristics. Work demands a high level of personal and professional integrity and tenacity to perform complex analysis that assists sensitive and often urgent investigations. A selected applicant must be able to work independently as well as in a team setting. Critical thinking skills and the ability to prioritize job duties throughout the workday are required.
