CAD Drafter utilizes computer-aided design (CAD) software and other techniques, standards, and tools to prepare technical drawings. Prepares computer-aided design (CAD) drafts, drawings, and schematics derived from a variety of specifications, layouts, blueprints, and sketches. Being a CAD Drafter maintains deadlines, goals, and production standards set by the department. Coordinates and consults with engineers or designers to complete projects. Additionally, CAD Drafter transforms initial rough product designs into working documents using CAD software. Collaborates with design originators to resolve discrepancies between original drawings and final CAD designs. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The CAD Drafter work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. To be a CAD Drafter typically requires 0-2 years of related experience.   • Summary

    This individual is responsible for turning functional prototypes to actual production using efficient and affordable processes and developing required and necessary tooling. Create CAD (2D and 3D models) drawings of castings and plastic products, machine design and tooling design to provide a database for use in production and sales. These duties are to be performed within safety, quality, and production standards.

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned that pertain to this classification.

    • Develop detailed 2D and/or 3D design drawings and specifications for castings and plastic products, using computer-assisted drafting (CAD) software like AutoCAD, Fusion360 or Solidworks.
    • Familiar with interdependency of part design and tool design.
    • Familiar with manufacturing drawings.
    • Layout and draw schematic, orthographic, or angle views to depict functional relationships of components, assemblies, systems, and machines.
    • Layout, draw, and reproduce illustrations for reference manuals and technical publications to describe operation and maintenance of mechanical systems.
    • Position instructions and comments onto drawings.
    • Work along with pattern supervisor and engineering team to develop tool(foundry pattern, Blow Molds and Injection Mold) drawings.
    • Shade or color drawings to clarify and emphasize details and dimensions or eliminate background.
    • Perform the 3D scanning for reverse engineering parts to foundry tooling.
    • Knowledgeable to run SLA 3D printer for printing tooling and prototype products.
    • Assist Sr. Design Engineer in tool manufacturing from design to production. 

    Education and Experience

    • Minimum Associate level Engineering Degree or related field or completed CAD certificate program with 5 year of manufacturing/tooling design experience (Foundry tooling experience preferred).
    • Minimum 3 years AutoCAD experience.
    • Experience in product and tooling design is must.
    • Designing experience in manufacturing foundry pattern design is preferred.
    • Proficient in 3D scanning and 3D printing is must.
    • Knowledge or experience in FEA is a plus.
    • Knowledge or experience with Casting Process Simulation software a plus.
    • Experience with Blow mold and injection mold design a plus

    • ·     Repair - Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of equipment.

    Standing, stooping and squatting can be expected.  Lifting or with other means transfer of tools, instruments, containers, and raw materials weighing up to 40 pounds.     The performance of this position normally requires exposure to a typical manufacturing areas that require the use of personal protective equipment: Steel toed shoes, Safety Glasses, PAPR, Face shield, gloves, Arc Flash Equipment and rated clothing and hearing protection.

    Primary environment: Temperature of work area may be affected by outside temperatures and machining. Short term exposure of temperatures up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Industrial lighting provided.
