    Summary: Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer/Head Start Director, the Head Start Deputy Director oversees the agency’s program for early childhood learning to achieve educational quality, positive child outcomes, and kindergarten readiness.

    Responsibilities:

    Oversees the day-to-day management and operations for the Head Start and Early Head Start Program.

    Supervises, collaborates, and coordinates all Head Start service area leadership and oversees initiatives to ensure that the following are met:

    • Timely and appropriate support for children with atypical behavior.
    • Family education and outreach activities are consistent with education goals and activities.
    • Family engagement and health and wellness efforts are well executed and aligned with promoting children’s school readiness and healthy development.
    • Comprehensive health and developmental screenings and follow-up are completed within timeframes set by Head Start Performance Standards and executed according to the program’s policies and procedures.
    • Program is fully enrolled per the grant application.

    Develops, initiates, maintains, and revises policies and procedures for the general operation of the Head Start and Early Head Start Programs.

    Works with the Director of Compliance and Monitoring to ensure that compliance Issues/concerns within the program are being appropriately evaluated, investigated, and resolved.

    Provides reports on a regular basis, and as directed or requested, to keep the CEO/President/Head Start Director, the Board of Directors and Senior Management informed of the operation and progress of compliance efforts.

    Provides periodic reports requested by the Administration of Children and Families, Regional Office and other agencies.

    Works with the Human Resource Director on staffing and training for the Head Start Program.

    Assists the CEO/President/Head Start Director in the preparation of the annual budget, COLA, and other funding opportunities for the Program.

    Assists with the Community Assessment and ensures updates are completed yearly.

    Effectively communicates with parents and staff, addressing any concerns and maintaining a high level of customer service.

    Coordinates monthly Policy Council meetings and maintains a positive relationship with Policy Council members.

    Education and Required Qualifications: Bachelor Degree required in relevant Human Services, Public or Business Administration or Early Childhood Education and experience in supervision of staff, fiscal management, and administration is required.

    Five or more years of recent experience in a management role involving program oversight, preferably within a multi-site operation.

    Physical Demands (not all inclusive, see job description for complete list)

    • Ability to sit most of the time with some bending and reaching.
    • Ability to receive and respond to oral communication.
    • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull up to 20 pounds.
    • Ability to work frequently at close visual range (i.e., preparing and analyzing data and figures, accounting, transcription, and extensive reading.

    Other Requirements: Applicants must have a current Florida Driver’s license, reliable transportation, and must meet all Department of Children and Families (DCF) and Office of Head Start (OHS) requirements for employment.

    Additionally, applicants must be knowledgeable and proficient in using MS Office applications.
