PAY RANGE: C4 Range, $21.86 - $31.73 per hours

SUMMARY:
Assist, in a supervisory capacity, the accomplishments of established and sensible provisions for the security and protection of all students, staff, and property. Ensure the security and safety of all students, staff, and property using appropriate, established and sensible practices and processes at the assigned school location. Duties include supervising and monitoring student behavior within and outside the school building, enforcing appropriate student behavior, communicating with students regarding issues and/or behavior, enforcing and monitoring student detention, directing the parking lot, and providing security for campus activities. Assist and provide supervision of athletic and social events on campus. Spanish bilingual candidates preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as a positive ambassador for Mapleton Public School to the larger community.
- Develop positive student relationships with very clear and appropriate boundaries.
- Monitor student behavior outside the classroom area (e.g., halls, parking lot, adjacent areas, and off-campus areas), including monitoring for illegal activities related to graffiti, trespassing, assault, drugs, weapons, and disorderly conduct, Counsel students verbally and through written communication regarding behavior.
- Issue parking permits and direct parking lot traffic.
- Investigate to assist administrators in accurately determining, recording, communicating facts relating to violations of law and/or the Student Behavior Handbook.
- Employ mediation strategies to build understanding between students and ensure safety of all parties.
- Coordinate and communicate with the campus SRO, any Campus Supervisor stationed at a particular school and PM district security and campus school directors.
- Provide security for Extended Learning activities on school campus.
- Provide security for athletic events held on school campus. Adjust daily work schedule to be present until the conclusion of evening events.

- Report maintenance items that are connected to campus safety and security.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with the Federal Education Right to Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Develop positive relationships with visitors and nearby businesses and neighbors.
- Attend appropriate in-services, building meetings, training, and/or school functions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING
AA Degree or have passed State Approved Assessment. May require training in computers or bilingual education, languages, and/or cultures.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of at-risk youth, gangs, drugs, and alcohol. Must be physically fit. Operating knowledge of microcomputers preferred. May require one or more of the following skills: basic English, grammar, spelling, writing, communication, and/or foreign language
SCHEDULE
Daily schedule may shift to a later start 10:30 am and end time 7:00 pm to provide security and safety at events on school campus such as basketball games and school dances.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS
First Aid and CPR certifications may be required.
SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees and directing work. Acts as a resource for others throughout District regarding drug, alcohol, and behavior education.
JUDGMENT AND DECISION MAKING
Daily work is assigned by district security supervisor, school site administrators, self, and situations that may arise. Requires independent judgment, alertness, negotiation skills, and application of security and safety procedures to detect that a situation exists, properly investigate the situation, defuse the situation if needed, and make decisions based on the information obtained. Decision making is guided by Student Handbook, Classified Employees Handbook, and School Staff Handbooks. Decision making requires collaboration with administrators. Errors in decision making could jeopardize the safety and welfare of staff and students if incidents are not responded to quickly and effectively, possibly leading to further accidents, injuries, or civil suit against the District. Errors could lead to embarrassment, liability, or cost to the District. Supervisor is occasionally involved in decision making.
DIVERSITY OF DUTIES
Duties require cross training in office skills, handling of blood borne pathogens, working with special needs students and at-risk youth, violence intervention, counseling, tutoring, self-defense, and physical restraint. Duties extend into several District areas on a daily basis.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and bodily fluids. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
MENTAL FUNCTIONS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to analyze, communicate, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile, and negotiate. Frequently required to compare and copy.
