WORK DAYS: 185 if position began in August, works until 6/13/2024 this school year
SALARY: 2023-24 rates are $17.35 - $22.18 depending upon prior experience
In addition,
we pay your PERS contribution. This position is subject to a funded budget based on staffing needs. Specific assignment is subject to change.
Job Goal:
This position provides supervision and instructional assistance to students during in-school suspension or detention and processes paperwork, and maintains, and analyzes data related to student discipline. In addition, this position also patrols school buildings, grounds and parking areas to maintain order and encourage regular, punctual attendance and promote appropriate behavior.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
The high school in-school suspension supervisor is distinguished from other educational and special program assistants because of the ability to work autonomously with a diverse population of students and maintain accurate data regarding student behavior. This position will provide, under admin/TOSA supervision, supervision and direct instruction to students identified for detention and in-school suspension.

High School Diploma or equivalent as required by OAR 581-37-030, Oregon Department of Education
- 18 years of age or older
- Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with students, parents and staff
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of students and their records
- Ability to supervise individual or groups of student(s) in an instructional setting without constant teacher oversight; work in a team situation
- Ability to work with students who may exhibit aggressive behavior, as required of specific job assignment
- Demonstrate standards of moral character and behavior to serve as an effective role model for students
- Understand basic provision of IDEA, due process procedures, and the IEP’s for children identified as disabled, as required by specific job assignment
- Demonstrate a positive attitude in working with children with special needs
- Knowledge of business English, spelling, math, science, office practices and procedures, and computer skills
- Ability to direct and respond appropriately to students
- Ability to work effectively in an environment which can be both physically and emotionally fatiguing; perform physically demanding requirements of the job
- In an ESL/ migratory position, as specified by the administrator, ability to be bilingual in Spanish, English, or other languages (speak, read, and write)
- Ability to deliver instructional programs to students who have learning and physical disabilities and/ or social behavior problems, as required by specific job assignment.
- Perform physical requirements which may include:
A. Moderate degree of physical stamina and occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
B. Frequent standing, walking, and bending
C. Physically restraining a student as needed, utilizing trained procedures
D. Possible exposure to bodily fluids in assisting students with using restrooms and in tending to injury and illness

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervises students and maintains discipline during in-school suspension and detention ensuring safety at all times.
- Assist the administration in assigning, recording and supervising student detention and during in-school suspension. Provides clerical support including, but not limited to, correspondence and processing student behavior issues in computer.
- Assist the administration in monitoring daily/weekly student attendance, in-school suspension and out-of-school suspension for truancies, tardies and behavior.
- Make recommendations to the administration regarding student suspensions for truancy, tardiness, and behavior and the rescheduling of in-school suspension. Responds to inquiries and complaints from staff, students, and parents regarding student behaviors.
- Collects, enters, and tracks all student behavior information and maintains accurate records. Maintains comprehensive records of students serving detention and, at the direction of the administration, prepares letters to be sent to students’ parents.
- Patrol school buildings, grounds, and parking areas to maintain order and safety and provide a preventative presence to deter truancy and other behaviors that may negatively impact the school environment.
- Report to administration any violations of the student conduct code or law, questionable or unsafe conditions, and problems that could endanger the safety and welfare of students and staff, and rumors of the same.
- Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records and inquiries.
- Provide remedial instruction as requested.
- Provide supervision of student(s) in buildings or other school areas and school related activities (i.e., hall duty, at assemblies, in lunch and playground areas, or with school buses as required).
- Administer discipline for minor infractions of behavior and refer inappropriate behavior concerns to the administration. Works with staff and assists students with managing behaviors, de- escalation and resolving conflicts.
- Completes a high volume of computer work, using District computer programs, to input data with speed and accuracy, including confidential data, in an environment with frequent interruptions.
- Reports safety, sanitary and fire hazards immediately to supervisor.
- Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
- Participate in in-service programs as assigned.
- Complies with applicable District, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations.
- Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policy(ies) and procedures.
- Maintains satisfactory attendance, as defined in District policy and regulations (GCBD/GDBD).
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and staff.
- Act as a friendly ambassador of the North Santiam School District
- Perform such other tasks (which may require knowledge of other job descriptions) as deemed appropriate to the Board or Administration.
