    Summary: Supervises and coordinates activities of recreation department personnel engaged in and participates in recreation program development at all park and recreational facilities maintained by the Boardman Park & Recreation District.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. (Below list is not exhaustive of the assigned duties and will include other duties as assigned.

    • Develops, promotes, and occasionally participates in new and original recreation programs, which may include music, dance, arts and crafts, cultural arts, nature study, special events, open gym, and day camps, etc.
    • Develops, promotes, and occasionally participates in youth and adult recreational sports leagues including volleyball, football, basketball, track, wrestling, soccer, baseball, softball, swim team, etc.
    • Coordinates all youth recreational sport registrations in connection with each sports respective volunteer boards.
    • May recruit and train coaches and referees for youth and adult recreational sport leagues.
    • Communicate and delegate duties to assistant recreation coordinator.
    • Adapts recreation programs to meet needs of individual agency or institution such as hospital, armed services, children service or aged community.
    • Coordinates with Aquatic Coordinator to develop, promote, adapt, and occasionally participate in new and original aquatic programs to include the underwater easter egg hunt, water safety day, kayak lessons, etc.
    • Introduces and trains staff on new recreational program activities, equipment, and materials.
    • Responsible for conducting and coordinating set up and tear down of equipment and recreational items for all recreational activities and events.
    • Coordinates with administrative or other professional personnel such as those engaged in medicine, social work, nursing, psychology, and therapy, to ensure that recreation is well balanced, coordinated, and integrated with special services.
    • Participates in community outreach events and activities such as Morrow County Children’s Fair, 4th of July Parade, Sage Center Harvest Festival, etc.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    Directly supervises 1 to 5 employees in the Recreation Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include participating in the interviewing and hiring process, and training employees; planning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and addressing complaints from direct reports employees.

    Minimum Required Qualifications:

    One-year certificate from college or technical school; or six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    CPR, First Aide, & AED Certified

    Lifeguard Certification – with in 6 months of hire or at 1st available class

    Physical Demands:

    While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

    Work Environment: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

    Work Schedule: This position will be required to work a varying schedule that is dependent upon the activities planned by the recreation department. Schedule will include working weekends, holidays, and evening hours as needed.
