  • The Recreation Superintendent is responsible for projects and tasks assigned by the Director and/or Assistant Director of Community Services/Recreation and Parks Department. Tasks include supervising staff, overall maintenance planning of the department, and managing of departmental projects.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Ability to effectively work with and promote a harmonious working environment with the City Administrator, Mayor, City Council, other City Departments, other governmental entities, and the citizens on the telephone and in person;
    • Assist in the preparation of the divisional and departmental budget and budget implementation including participation in the forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies
    • Ability to lead, motivate, and support a large team in accomplishing individual and group goals within a time-sensitive and demanding environment.
    • Participate in the selection, training, and evaluation of staff, including disciplinary procedures when appropriate
    • Develop and implement, maintenance controls, such as routine maintenance plans/protocols, to ensure quality assurance at all parks.
    • Establish and ensure the implementation of a proper preventive park maintenance program; coordinate contractor and staff maintenance
    • Identify maintenance needs and assign staff effectively and efficiently to complete the needs identified.
    • Supervise assigned projects including contractor communications, attending project meetings, and updating necessary department and public parties.
    • Assist in the research and compilation of project specifications for the creation of RFP’s and bid documents.
    • Investigate complaints and recommend corrective action as necessary to resolve complaints
    • Oversee all maintenance requisitions, including materials and equipment, and manage inventory.
    • Analyze and assess programs, policies, and operational needs and make appropriate adjustments;
    • Develop and implement policies and procedures within the division.
    • Represent the division and department to outside agencies and organizations; participate in outside community and professional groups and committees

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education or experience.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    May supervise assigned personnel in the Recreation Department; these duties will include overseeing the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the assigned personnel; Carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the City’s policies and applicable laws. Duties also may include interviewing and training new employees, planning, assigning, and directing work assignments, appraising work performance, and addressing complaint and resolving issues in department.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
