    Facility Overview

    At Ocean View Psychiatric Health Facility, we are committed to serving as a community resource, providing the highest quality of mental health services. Currently, Ocean View operates as an adult 39-bed voluntary acute in-patient facility, offering private rooms and individualized care through a multi-disciplinary approach focusing on compassionate care and best practices. We also provide Intensive Outpatient and Partial hospitalization services to ensure a continuum of care after acute stabilization. We are currently in the process of expanding our Long Beach facility to 80 beds, offering a locked facility setting for those who meet intensive mental health criteria. Additionally, our expansion plans to other areas are progressing rapidly, and we anticipate that our Colton Location in San Bernadino County, will be operational by Spring of 2024.  

     

    Recreational Therapist 1 Position Overview 

    Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 / Hour

     

    This position functions under the Director of Social Services in planning, developing, coordinating, and implementing the treatment program and other therapeutic activity programs which meet the needs and interests of each Patient in the facility.

    Responsibilities and Essential Duties

    • Implement rehabilitation activity groups for patients as needed.
    • Conduct activity groups and services of the Recreation Therapy Treatment Program, including assessment, group notes, 1:1s, treatment planning, discharge planning and direct treatment services.
    • Demonstrate the quality of verbal reporting and written documentation of patient involvement and progress in the rehab activity program on a regular basis.
    • Coordinate treatment and unit activities and other rehab services with the overall treatment schedule with other programs in the facility.
    • Coordinate care and work alongside multidisciplinary staff, interns, and volunteers.
    • Monitor the order and safety of rehabilitation group rooms and unit areas.
    • Provide feedback regarding department and program policy and procedures as often as needed.
    • Represent Recreation Therapy by serving on facility committees, interfacing with the public, and interacting with patient’s support systems and families.
    • Documentation of admissions and discharges in logbook daily
    • Completion of screenings within 72 hours of admission
    • Completion of treatment plan interventions within 72 hours of admission
    • Attend multidisciplinary treatment planning meetings.
    • Provide individual leisure counseling and discharge planning as needed.
    • Document group participation in daily group notes or alternative activities
    • Complete data collection for performance improvement activities if needed.
    • Keep assigned areas clean, orderly, and safe.
    • Supervision and advisement of RT interns. 
    • Will be required to work a set number of holidays.
    • Help with decorating of hospital and group programming for holidays. 

    Minimum Qualifications:

     

    Education

    Bachelor’s degree in occupational, therapeutic recreation, art, music, or drama therapy required. 

     

    Experience

    Two years of experience treating the mentally ill, or inpatient hospital experience.

     

    Specialized Skills

    Ability to interact and communicate both verbally and in writing with seriously and persistently mentally ill Patients, other staff members, physicians, and the public.

    Demonstrated understanding of psychiatric illness and treatment

    Knowledge of Title 22, Title 9, Patients’ Rights and Regulations a plus. 

    Ability to work in fast paced environment.

     

    License or Certification:

    Must be RTC or CTRS Certified
