    About this job:

    Provides general supervision of site based and special assignment Campus Security Officers (CSO’s). Position is part of the Campus Security Division under the management and direction of the Division Commander. Communicates and collaborates with school leaders on issues related to site based security. Ensures scheduling, assignment, evaluations and standards of service are conducted and adhered to. Assists the Commander in planning and training for the division. Provides emergency response and supervisor oversight as needed. This position will require the applicant to carry a firearm while on duty.

    What You'll Do:

    • Provides general supervision of CSO’s and ensures the standards of service requirements are adhered to.
    • Communicates on a regular basis with school leaders on CSO performance, assignments and security needs.
    • Assists the Commander in a wide range of administrative functions, i.e. conduct job applicant selection, train security personnel and evaluate and assign duties to personnel.
    • Monitor personnel assigned within the division; prepare and submit reports, time sheets and other necessary documentation of daily activities
    • Oversee and coordinate new hire training and annual in-service training for all new and existing CSO staff.
    • Respond to dispatched or assigned calls for service or assistance
    • Reviews and corrects Safety and Security incident reports that are filed by site based security staff.
    • Assists the Commander in coordinating Safe Routes to Schools Program and participates in Traffic Safety Task Force consortium with the City and County of Denver.
    • Maintain compliance with School District policies, existing department policies, procedures and practices, existing local, state, or federal laws and ordinances pertaining to unlawful activities on or about school properties.
    • Respond as necessary to requests for security assistance from individual school/sites and assume supervisory control of security personnel.
    • Work closely and effectively with all members of the Safety and Security Department, school and site leaders and assume control of security personnel.
    • Take supervisory charges, overseeing and directing the activities of all site based security officers during critical incidents while on duty or as directed.
    • Complete and maintain appropriate personnel schedules maintaining coverage requirements as directed by CSO Commander.
    • Maintain a working knowledge of all Safety and Security systems I.e. Computers, Radios, Video Cameras, ARMS Incident Reporting Systems, KRONOS time keeping system, etc.
    • Be completely familiar with the School District’s policies, existing department policies, procedures and practices, existing local, state or federal laws and ordinances pertaining to unlawful activities on or about District schools and facilities.
    • Initiate, process and formalize personnel evaluations
    • Attend all training as directed by the CSO Commander.
    • May be called back to duty in an emergency or systems failure.

    What You’ll Need:

    • High School Diploma or GED. Sixty (60) hours post-secondary education in criminal justice or related field of law enforcement is preferred.
    • Recommended: Associates or technical degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other related fields.
    • Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certification and ability to maintain it is preferred but not required.
    • Four (4) years’ experience in the security field. Two (2) years supervisory experience required. Experience in DPS security is highly preferred.
    • Possess effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Possess leadership and supervisory skills.
    • Experience with the DPS geographic locations, functions of other divisions and units function and operation.
    • Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office products (e.g. Excel, Word, and PowerPoint). Bilingual skills in Spanish are preferred.

    • Possess high level of knowledge of criminal justice system, local, state, and federal laws and ordinances and the ability to work closely with all persons responsible for enforcement.
    • Complete knowledge of duties and responsibilities of Campus Security Officers
    • Familiar with all operational procedures and policies of the department and the base functions of other divisions and units of the department.
    • Possess a very high degree of positive work and professional ethics and dependability
    • Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Able and willing to take physical control of persons who are committing crimes against others while on school district property.
    • Ability to interact with diverse customer populations and workforce and to mitigate potentially volatile situations.
    • Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough preliminary investigations including interviews of victims and witnesses, recognition and collection of evidence, and accurate report writing and documentation of information received.
    • Familiarity with the geographic boundaries of the School District and a good working knowledge of all buildings.
    • Ability to apply independent thinking to decision making within confines of established procedures.
    • Ability to work under stressful conditions.
    • Lead for racial and educational excellence and work to dismantle systems of oppression and inequity in our community, along with believing in and supporting all students so they feel seen and heard with access to high quality education.
