This position will report to the Assistant Director of Campus Safety & Security at Aims Community College. The College serves over 8,000 students annually, has over 1,100 employees (full and part time), and thousands of community members who participate annually in a wide range of events at all locations of Aims (Greeley, Fort Lupton, Loveland, Windsor and Flight Center). This position will be the lead and point of contact working directly with Aims Events Staff for the coordination of safety and security for student, employee and community events. Due to the scheduling of events, this position will not work a traditional 8am to 5pm, Monday – Friday workweek, however, this position will typically work a 40-hour workweek and is eligible for overtime (prior approval) and all of the benefits associated with a full-time position. This position will hire, supervise and provide direction/training for all part-time GS employees and collaborate with outside law enforcement, when appropriate, to ensure a safe and secure environment at these events as well as ensure all policies, procedures and processes are followed. When not coordinating efforts related to events, this position will work directly with their peer, the Safety & Security Supervisor and at the direction of the Assistant Director, on the following duties to include, but not limited to: 1). Patrol of the campus and its buildings (possibly satellite campuses). 2). Assist the campus community (student/employees) with a wide variety of problems and concerns. 3). Provide first response to campus emergencies and disruptions. 4). Assist with crowd and traffic control. 5). Secure and open rooms (offices/classrooms) and buildings. 6). Document incidents in a detailed/timely manner, following established protocols. 7). Participate in on-call rotation. This position is required to maintain a high level of sensitivity and confidentiality at all times. This position may be required to remain at their work location, or report back work to protect, recover, and continue operations at the College, if the College is faced with an institutional emergency Event Security: Working with the Events staff and Law Enforcement, leading security efforts for planned internal and external events held at Aims Community College. Hire, supervise, provide oversight, training, direction, and scheduling of Part Time Guest Services employees for planned internal and external events held at Aims Community College Personnel performance management. This position is responsible for addressing performance management issues with positions supervised. This may require working with the Director of Employee Relations. Handle all security personnel issues for planned internal and external events held at Aims Community College Main point of contact with outside law enforcement, when appropriate, to ensure a safe and secure environment at these events. Ensure policy and procedures are being followed at events. Other duties are described below that may be required as they relate to events to include; but are not limited too, being the first response to an emergency at an event, documenting any incidents, addressing conflict, duty enforcement, and investigating /reporting. Provide exceptional customer service by assisting event attendees, answering questions and offering directions when needed. Monitor access points, conduct bag checks, perform entry screenings and remain vigilant to any suspicious persons or situations. Conduct crowd monitoring to ensure no one is getting pushed or trampled as well as ensuring that all exits remain clear and people are not loitering on access areas like stairwells, elevators and escalators. Provide parking assistance at the designated parking areas. Ensure that attendees are parking where they should and that there is a flow of traffic that allows for safe ingress and egress of events. Patrolling & Call Response: Conduct security patrols of campus and all College buildings and facilities on foot or by other means (i.e. patrol car, bicycle, etc.) and provide stationary security post duties as assigned. Ensure that Security Supervisor and management personnel are notified in a proper and timely manner of breaches of security occurring on College properties or of information received that may create a security risk for College properties such as trespassers and contact local law enforcement as appropriate. Perform safety escorts, on foot or by college vehicle to and from vehicles and College facilities upon request for members of the campus community including students, college staff, visiting dignitaries, and others. Check secure areas for unauthorized personnel or movement of students. Patrol the college facilities including parking lots and open spaces to deter crime and disruptions caused by physical or verbal conflict between students and/or visitors. Prevent vandalism and theft of school property as well as disruptions caused by physical or verbal conflict between students when observed. Physically inspect buildings and check doors, windows, entries and exits for safety. Respond to alarms and communicate and assist fire and police departments. Provide customer service by enthusiastically providing information and services. Investigations & Reporting: Conduct investigations of security matters on campus. Write complete, accurate and timely reports to record campus incidents and document investigations and maintains logs relating to activity on campus. This requires strong oral and written communication skills to include basic computer and typing proficiency. Originate and file written reports utilizing computer aided reporting systems, regarding activities and incidents occurring on College properties and information received from other sources pertaining to security or incidents on properties and the surrounding area. Properly report and track incidents on campus for inclusion in the federally mandated Clery reports. Work with law enforcement to preserve evidence in incidents that may be criminal in nature. Duty Enforcement: Respond to and assist in resolving conflicts and confrontations on campus. Assist with crowd control as needed. Issue campus parking tickets. Direct persons creating a disruption, safety or security risk, or those in unauthorized areas to leave campus, escort them off premises, or call law enforcement. Control the flow of vehicle and pedestrian traffic on campus property. Enforce all College rules and regulations on College properties owned or leased as specified in Standard Operating Procedures. Challenge trespassers, loiterers, errant vehicle operators and all others who create a safety and security risk to students and staff and threaten the overall security and integrity of the physical assets and property of the College including violations of the student code of conduct. Emergency Response: Assist in evacuating faculty, staff, and students during emergencies Serve as initial responder when dealing with emergency situations such as tornados, floods, bomb threats, lock downs, etc., following proper procedures for lock down, lock out, evacuate, and shelter in place. Respond and manage all types of emergencies until the arrival of outside agencies. Maintain required certifications in emergency response areas as required by the College and federal or state law or regulation. Other Duties as Assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Associate Degree in Criminal Justice, Law, or other related field; plus, Four (4) years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or work experience. OR Six (6) years of related work experience in law enforcement, military, security with public events, or other related work experience. Previous experience with a firearm. Event management experience. Demonstrated good communication skills (verbal and written). Demonstrated computer skills. This position requires the use of a company vehicle and/or personal vehicle for business travel. The selected candidate must successfully pass an MVR and be insurable under Aims insurance. Must pass a pre-employment post offer physical exam, urinalysis test, and psychological exam. Upon hire, must successfully complete and maintain the department-approved Firearms certification. Upon hire, must successfully complete and maintain the department-approved Defensive-tactics certification. Upon hire, must successfully complete and maintain certification in Basic First Aid/CPR.
