ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Maintain confidentiality of records, knowledge of events, student and staff associated information.
2. Ensure a safe atmosphere for the students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
3. Follow and maintain accurate sign-in/sign-out procedures in schools.
4. Report any suspicious activity that compromises faculty, staff, student, and visitor safety to the
administration.
5. Assist in monitoring school grounds and buildings.
6. Ensure that completed student observation reports are submitted to the appropriate administrators.
7. Assist in conducting investigations of prohibitive/criminal behavior as directed by the Director of
Security.
8. Maintain familiarity with all East Lyme Board of Education, state, and federal policies, statutes, and
court decisions.
9. Follow work schedules that achieve maximum effectiveness of department objectives.
10. Ensure the confidentiality/integrity of the security department report writing and record keeping
system.
11. Assist in the security coverage for all athletic and other student or public events.
12. Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School/GED equivalent or higher education
2. Strong Communication Skills
3. First Aid, CPR, and self-defense training
4. Ability to work flexible hours (some weekend and night-time hours)
5. Law enforcement/corrections experience
KNOWLEDGE OF:
ABILITY TO:
district requirements and Board of Education policies.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure
manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively with administrators, staff, parents and students.
REASONING SKILLS:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited
standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule
form.
