    Classification Summary:

    The Associate Director classification is responsible for assisting in the coordination of programs and services of their unit; assisting in establishing and implementing policies and procedures; supporting the implementation of the College’s overarching strategic priorities and goals under the guidance of the unit head; following, enforcing, and ensuring compliance with relevant federal, state and local regulations; assisting with the management and supervision of staff or student workers.

    Office/School Summary:

    Hudson Helps is part of Hudson County Community College’s (HCCC) Hudson Helps Resource Center and seeks to support students’ basic needs. The mission of Hudson Helps is to provide thoughtful, caring, and comprehensive information on access to services, programs, and resources that will assist in addressing basic needs beyond the classroom, ultimately resulting in greater student success.

    Summary of Duties:

    Reporting to the Director of Hudson Helps, the Associate Director is responsible for advancing, supporting, and sustaining HCCC's efforts to provide wrap-around holistic student support services. The Associate Director will support two food pantries, a career closet, community partner office space, emergency assistance, and other support services. The Associate Director will supervise Federal Work Study students and Master’s Level Social Work interns from neighboring colleges and universities to assist with case management. In the community, the Associate Director will work hands-on with the Director to identify and build relationships with partners who can provide resources and support to HCCC students. The Associate Director will lead and coordinate events and services at both the North Hudson and Journal Square campuses. The Associate Director will be located primarily at the North Hudson Campus, but will remain flexible in their work location and hours.

    Principal Responsibilities:

    • Provides leadership for leading and administering services offered by Hudson Helps at the North Hudson Campus.
    • Under the supervision of the Director of Hudson Helps, develops short-term and long-term strategic planning initiatives related to the College’s student success action plan and strategic plan.
    • Creates, leads, and supports the growth and development of external community partnerships to address student needs.
    • Supervises social work interns from neighboring colleges and universities to assist with case management.
    • Leads, supports, and coordinates programs and activities designed to increase the participation and engagement of all members of the College community with Hudson Helps.
    • Researches and applies for grants, scholarships, and awards to support Hudson Helps, where applicable.
    • Works closely with the Offices of Student Affairs and Enrollment, Mental Health Counseling and Wellness, and the CARE Team on college-wide initiatives to address student concerns.
    • Provides input to the Director of Hudson Helps and participates in developing the annual office budget.
    • Monitors and analyzes the yearly operating budget and the Emergency Fund budget to ensure effective financial management and efficient cost control systems. Operates within established budget constraints and monitors budget allocations.
    • Projects a positive self-image of professionalism, appearance, confidentiality, courtesy, conduct, honesty, fairness, and personal integrity at all times.
    • Projects and embodies the College’s Culture of Care.
    • Directs and performs other related activities, as required. Leads and/or conducts special projects as needed. Remains flexible and adaptable in work schedules and work assignments as defined by College, office, and student needs.
    • The Associate Director must be willing to work on both college campuses as needed.
    • Performs other assigned duties.

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

    • Master's degree in Social Work.
    • LSW licensure in good standing.
    • Ability to enroll in and complete the Seminar in Field Instruction (SIFI) certification within 1 year to supervise Master’s level interns.
    • Minimum of three years of experience in student support, case management, program/budget management, design, implementation, assessment, and administration.
    • Ability to think conceptually, develop and implement policies and procedures, and make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
    • Superior verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to the role of a comprehensive community college in an urban, multicultural setting.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with grant-writing.
    • Experience with regulatory and grant-related compliance management.
    • Proficiency with various computer software programs and Ellucian-Colleague, EAB, or similar higher education student information systems.

    Work requires no unusual demand for physical effort.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms; e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations, and traffic signals when driving.
