Registered Nurse - Cancer Center - Part Time - Days

  • Employment Type: Part time Shift: Day Shift Description: Position Purpose: The Registered Nurse is responsible for the delivery of nursing care for all types of Oncology patients in the Radiation Oncology department through the use of the nursing process identified by the Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa professional nursing practice plan. What you will Do: Demonstrates customer service to others as a number one priority and accomplishes this by integrating Service Excellence into all aspects of the work day, taking responsibility for service recovery and working for outcomes that delight the customer. Assesses patients and identifies physical, spiritual, nutritional and psychosocial needs for patients requiring all levels of care with a focus on the patient with complex needs. Identifies and manages common side effects associated with cancer treatment and evaluates patient/family response to nursing interventions. Acts as a resource for the nursing process to other clinical nurses. Provides or facilitates learning opportunities to meet the educational needs of the patient and family by assessing the learning needs and formulating and initiating a teaching plan to meet those needs. Collaborates with the patient and family to identify complex teaching needs. Functions as a resource for department staff. Hours/Schedule: Part Time, working Monday-Friday, (24) hours/week. (8:00am-4:30pm or 8:30am-5:00pm) Minimum Qualifications: Current RN license in the state of Iowa. Associate Degree in Nursing or graduate from an RN program required Must complete and successfully pass Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) courses: Cancer Basics and Chemotherapy Biotherapy: Fundamentals of Administration courses after 9 months of employment, must successfully complete the ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Certificate course, and renew every 2 years. Strongly preferred OCN certification within 2 years of employment. Prefer minimum of 4 years of experience in a health care setting, inpatient, outpatient, home care, hospice or clinic experience, all possess transferable skills or knowledge valuable to the Cancer Center. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrates knowledge and support for the principles of customer relations in daily activities. Must have the sensitivity and understanding need to work with cancer patients. Self-motivated, detail-oriented individual able to work with minimum supervision and possess the ability to work under pressure due to fluctuating workloads. Ability to work as a team. Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Healthcare Provider, American Heart Association; or American Red Cross, Professional Rescuer-LIVE class only) via current card prior to employment or within 60 days of hire and maintains current status. Must provide proof of Mandatory Reporting for Child and Dependent Adult Abuse training prior to employment or within 6 months of hire and maintain current status per State of Iowa guidelines.
