    Summary:


    The Cancer Care Director is responsible for the direction and administration of the strategic planning, business development, operational and quality activities of the Covenant Cancer Care Center, including; Infusion & Radiation Centers, Hematology-Medical Oncology, Gynecologic Oncology, Breast Surgery, and Radiation Oncology physician practices, nurse navigation, social work, dietary, tumor registry, and
    associated mangement, support staff and services. Must work with other hospital departments involved in the care of patients with cancer.

    Key emphasis is placed upon coordination of cancer care, physician collaboration, employee engagement, patient experience, quality and performance indicators, operational and fiscal excellence.

    The Cancer Care Director demonstrates excellent customer service performance in that his/her attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant HealthCare and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation.


    Responsibilities:


    Mentors subordinates for personal growth and development as well as future positions in Covenant HealthCare.


    Builds effective working relationships with management, physicians, staff and other partners, and fosters a spirit of teamwork in areas of responsibility within Covenant.


    Willingly shares authority and delegates responsibility through the empowerment of managers and staff.

    Prepares departmental budgets and manages their financial performance, projects volume/activity, manages net income and controls expenses.


    Provides ongoing reassessment of departmental cost effectiveness and productivity.


    Analyzes and reports financial information and incorporates information into decision making.


    Adopts prudent financial practices such as inventory control, cost ratio’s, and cost benefit analysis.

    Develops major equipment and project five-year forecasts, capital budgets, and pro-forma statements.

    Effectively manages human resources (i.e., hiring, motivating, communicating, coaching, appraising, disciplining), while adhering to policies, standards, and pertinent regulations.

    Develops and utilizes cancer information (e.g., Cancer Registry, outpatient information, and marketing information)


    Collaboratively formulates departmental targets and goals, and creatively provides the leadership to accomplish them, including performance improvement and greenbelt activities.


    Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for the operational and patient care management of clinical areas on a 24-hour basis.


    Participate in management meetings and in services and represent the Cancer Care Center and areas of direct responsibility at appropriate Medical Staff committee meetings and other events.

    Achieve planned results for productivity and quality.

    Measures and reports quality monitoring, data, develops and implement action plans to address deficiencies and incorporates best practice benchmarks into target goal setting.

    Solicits and acknowledges feedback from others incorporating improvement opportunities into goal setting.

    Quality monitoring data encompasses accuracy of data, completeness, effectiveness, safety, and customer satisfaction of care delivery.

    Assures departmental compliance with all applicable laws and regulatory agency requirements.

    Participates and provides a leadership role in special projects.

    Effectively manages time to incorporate project work into daily routine.

    Works collaboratively across departmental boundaries to accomplish work

    Effectively prioritize, differentiate and balance competing demands resulting from multiple reporting relationships.

    Provide for timely completion of project activities through planning and budgeting.

    Analyzes staff capabilities and established priorities for development opportunities.

    Provides developmental activities to meet regulatory requirements, demonstrate competency and skill development.

    Focuses work assignments with efforts to provide leadership learning opportunities

    Participates in 360o feedback process and develops goals and objectives focused on personal development.

    Applies new skills and knowledge willingly sharing to develop peers and team members

    Adopts a strategic attitude towards departmental portfolio, proactively plan for the future and is aware of opportunities and potential advantages for reorganizing/restructuring, acquisition, service expansion and/or contracting.

    Takes reasonable risks in seeking new methods, improves systems and updated technology and effectively adopts innovations in work flow to achieve departmental goals.

    Maintains current knowledge of advancements in areas of responsibility, including but not limited to technology, business practices, and performance standards.

    Promotes marketing opportunities for business units.

    Completes two site visits annually for best practice opportunities.

    Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with medical staff to foster enhanced patient care.

    Manages vendor relationships to ensure quality service, including timeliness and cost effectiveness of vendor products and services.

    Positively represents Covenant HealthCare and work effectively within the community to promote good will and garner support for Covenant’s operations.

    Maintains compliance to regulatory and Covenant HealthCare standards and policies. Comply with regulatory standards and preparation of site visits, including cancer program accreditation surveys.

    Ensures compliance to standards through ongoing measurement and monitoring regularly with developmental action plans to improve performance.

    Demonstrates leadership in initiating and managing change, adopting new methods, willingness to see beyond and across departmental silos and effective participation in meetings.

    Focuses staff on their commitment to Covenant’s Mission, Vision, and Values and Strategic Plan.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    Required: Master’s Degree (e.g. MSN, MBA, MSA, or MHA) or willingness to complete
    Required: 5 years’ leadership experience in clinical healthcare role
    Preferred: Minimum 3 years’ leadership experience in Oncology Service
