Cancer Treatment Center Director (Hosp. Op.) directs and oversees all activities of the hospital's cancer center.     HOURS:  8:00am - 5:30pm

     

    PRIMARY (ESSENTIAL) DUTIES

    • Assesses department activities, patient care needs, status changes.
    • Assigns and/or delegates care to other staff members.  Reassigns as necessary to meet changing needs.
    • Prescribes care to be delivered based on nursing diagnosis, patient needs, patient problems and available resources.  May delegate to other RNs.
    • Plans care based on assessment.  May delegate planning to another RN.
    • Plans and coordinates nursing care and department activities for/during a given shift.
    • Participates in direct patient care as needed.
    • Plans for patients' discharge, or delegates to another RN.  Collaborates with physicians and other services to assure discharge planning.
    • Delegates to other individuals contributing to the delivery of nursing care.
    • Facilitates conflict resolution between care givers and others.
    • Acts as a patient advocate to assure high-quality care is delivered.
    • Communicates with physicians to inform/collaborate/receive information and clarify.  May delegate to another RN.
    • Assures that physicians' orders are reviewed & implemented or clarified.  May delegate to another RN.
    • Coordinates care with other services which provide care and therapy.
    • Informs Department Director an/or Supervisor of significant changes in patients conditions, problems which carry over from one shift to another, significant unresolved issues, professional issues and other concerns affecting them.
    • Promotes positive working relationships among and between team members and between shifts.
    • Acts as a resource person for other staff members and for other departments and supervisors during a specific shift.
    • Participates in interdepartmental conferences, meetings and communications as needed during a specific shift, i.e., care conferences.
    • Assures that the Philosophy of St. Joseph Regional Medical Center is practiced and that patients' rights are upheld.
    • Considers cost impact and resource availability in assignment making, priority setting, selection of equipment and supplies and in minimizing overtime.
    • Evaluates outcomes of care, patient adaptation, effectiveness of treatment and communicates information to appropriate persons.  May delegate to another RN.
    • Informs Supervisor and/or Department Director of perceived overstaffing and of perceived need for additional staff. This should occur at time of need or excess.
    • Reports relevant and significant information to next shift.  May delegate this responsibility.

    Qualifications

    • Associate of Science degree in nursing (ASN)
    • Bachelor of Science degree in nursing (BSN) preferred
    • Minimum of two years' applicable experience preferred
    • Current license in the state of Idaho, or licensure eligible
    • BLS on first day or to be assigned by the Learning Center
