  • Duties

    • Make initial diagnosis and locates, mechanical deficiencies and malfunctions.
    • Perform inspection and repair of several small arms units such as M-16's Rifles, M4A1 Carbines, M-203 and M320A1 Grenade Launchers, M-249 SAW, Machine Guns, Pistols, etc.
    • Train less experienced workers in repair and maintenance techniques.
    • Modify small weapons by replacing obsolete parts and/or assemblies.

    • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
    • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
    • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
    • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
    • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
    • Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.

    Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Small Arms Repairer ~ without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience or show the ability to do the following: preparing maintenance request; documenting labor hours; cleaning and inspecting weapons; training employees in weapons maintenance; maintaining weapons supply parts; driving vehicles of ton capacity; distribute/securing supplies, cargo and equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
    • Physical Effort: Frequently lifts subassemblies or small weapons weighing 15 to 20 pounds. Often carries large assembles or weapons weighing up to 50 pounds. Work requires walking, bending, and long periods of standing, lifts 100 pounds with assistance.
    • Working Conditions: The work is generally accomplished inside in areas that are well lighted, heated, and ventilated. May occasionally work outside on Ranges and/or in areas that are drafty, hot and poorly lighted. The work is sometimes dusty, dirty, and greasy. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes and bruises. Subjected to different type of cleaning and lubricating sprays. Occasionally checks weapons containing unexploded ammunition.
