    The Department of Veterinary Small Animal Clinical Sciences (VSCS) in the School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (VMBS) (http://vetmed.tamu.edu/) at Texas A&M University invites applications for one clinical-track (non-tenure) Assistant, Associate or full Professor position on an 11-month appointment to serve as Small Animal Medical Educator in our 2 2 DVM program at the Texas A&M University Veterinary Education, Research & Outreach (VERO) center on the West Texas A&M University campus in Canyon, Texas, located in the Texas Panhandle. This position is anticipated to start in Fall 2024. VERO provides unprecedented opportunities for veterinary education and collaboration with industry partners and stakeholders from the region and across the nation.

    This unique clinical educator position includes a primary role in the preclinical years of the DVM curriculum. The chosen individual will participate in instruction of the integrated and highly experiential DVM curriculum. The individual will participate in multiple courses, including the Professional and Clinical Skills (PCS) course which is contiguous through the first six semesters of the curriculum. In this course, students gain clinical skills in the simulation laboratory, professional skills, including communication, ethical decision-making, personal and professional finance, and critical thinking skills using problem-based instruction hosted by combined instruction from foundation science and clinical faculty. The successful candidate and will have an academic home in the VMBS Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences.

    The successful candidate will devote up to 80% of their time to instruction in the preclinical curriculum. Teamwork and collaboration are highly valued at Texas A&M University and at VERO, and candidates are expected to provide service to committees, working groups, and professional organizations. Individuals may engage in scholarly activity related to their discipline as well as teaching and learning. Strong collaborations exist between VERO faculty and our campus in College Station and are highly encouraged.

    Developed as part of the Texas commitment to animals and agriculture, VERO represents a dynamic partnership between the Texas A&M VMBS and West Texas A&M University and is set in the heart of one of the most productive animal agricultural regions in the world. The Texas Panhandle and Plains area is home to the highest density of cattle in the USA with approximately 30% of the nation’s beef cattle fed or finished in the region, another 2.5 million beef cattle in the area, and over 300,000 dairy cattle at any given time. Nearby is Palo Duro Canyon State Park, home to the second largest canyon in the country. This area provides scenic hiking, biking, camping and horseback riding. Winter skiing in Taos, NM is within driving distance. In addition, Texas is home to nearly 900,000 horses. The WTAMU campus supports the highly competitive women’s equestrian team and the WTAMU Horse Center includes a teaching and research herd of 50 horses.
