MAIN FUNCTION:
A Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer is a qualified professional with both academic and clinical experience who provides patient care services using diagnostic ultrasound specialized in the area of Pediatric Cardiology.
The scope of practice includes performing pediatric echocardiograms for which the individual has demonstrated competency through education, clinical experience, and certification. Pediatric Cardiac Sonographers report to the cardiac services manager, or their designees, and work closely with the pediatric cardiologist.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
Active certification in Pediatric Echocardiography as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through ARDMS, Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through CCI or another approved equivalent.
Must maintain working knowledge and educational requirements for active certification
Graduate from an approved program desirable, but not required
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum one year full time pediatric echocardiography and clinical experience required.
CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) REQUIREMENTS:
Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 30 days of hire date.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Emotional and physical health sufficient to meet the demands of the position.
Ability to maintain prolonged, repetitive arm positions necessary for scanning.
Appreciable physical effort or strain is required to move heavy equipment, assist patients, push patients in wheelchairs, or on stretchers.
