24/7 RESPIRATORY COVERAGE
RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general supervision, administers respiratory care and life support to patients with cardiopulmonary system deficiencies and abnormalities. Trains and acts as a resource for respiratory department.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have current LVN or RN license
- CPR certification required
- Ability to understand, remember, and carry out verbal or written instructions in English
- Ability to complete assignments in a timely manner
- Ability to be flexible and positive with intermittent interruptions
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- To assure resident safety
- Assesses patients and recommends respiratory therapy treatments
- Plans, prepares, and administers respiratory therapy treatments including IPPB, aerosol, chest physical therapy, incentive spirometry, and sputum inductions, in accordance with established policies and procedures
- Performs diagnostic pulmonary and cardiac tests
- Records patient treatment, response, and progress
- Inspects, tests, maintains, and operates respiratory therapy equipment
- Responds to "code blue" calls and assists by maintaining the patient's airway and performing CPR
- Instructs respiratory technicians
- Records patient’s medical histories, monitor breathing, measure lung capacity, and discuss symptoms to help develop effective and implement an effective treatment plan
- Managing airways, checking IVs, setting up ventilators, teaching patients to use equipment needed and education
- Assist with pain management and education to patients
- Reads journals and reference books to maintain continuing education
- Provides the best possible nursing care by planning, organizing, and directing the nursing functions of patients in the unit
- Makes nursing assignments appropriate to the skill level of employees
- Maintains acceptable standards of patient care
- Identifies problems and guides personnel to their solution
- Creates a working climate that provides growth and job satisfaction of personnel
- Accurately and promptly implements physicians’ orders
- Supports and enforces infection-control policies and procedures
- Is able to use PCC system to convey/receive resident information
- Maintains a professional approach with confidentiality
- Cooperates and maintains good rapport with nursing staff, medical staff, other departments, and visitors
- Obtains and documents nursing history from the patient and/or significant other that is comprehensive of present condition and prior problems
- Performs basic assessment of the patient, indicating adequate knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology
- Records vital signs, notes changes, and pursues more-specific investigation as needed
- Assesses for and notifies physician and other appropriate parties of changes in condition
- Uses assessment information to develop a care plan before the end of duty time that communicates enough information for incoming personnel to adequately care for the patient
- Uses care plans as a basis for providing safe and therapeutic care to patients
- Consistently follows established standards, policies, and procedures in providing nursing care
- Accepts accountability for clinical care of assigned patients, including supervision of nonprofessional personnel
- Communicates with the patient and his or her family and other members of the health care team in carrying out the goals of the care plan
- Performs competently those technical skills considered basic to the type of care given in that unit
- Responds appropriately in urgent and/or emergency situations
- Supports standards of nursing care through adherence to existing policies and procedures
- Seeks guidance when encountering nursing procedures and responsibilities that have not been mastered
- Promotes positive public relations with patients, residents, family members and guests
- Uses tactful, appropriate communications in sensitive and emotional situations
- Use appropriate workplace behavior
- Know and participate in the facility emergency preparedness plan
- Perform other duties/tasks as may be assigned.
- Complete and/or attend required in-service training.
- Communicate in a professional and courteous manner using effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills with residents, their families, and team members.
- Maintain confidentiality of department, resident, employee information, communication, and documentation as well as compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.
- Clock in and out for all working/training hours. Working off the clock is not permitted at any time or for any reason.
- Maintain compliance with company’s Compliance program and plan.
- Adhere to the Abri Code of Conduct
- These duties are not all-inclusive but provide minimum performance expectations and are reviewed in the performance process.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Able to lift 150 pounds, if necessary, to assist fallen resident; able to lift 20 pounds for routine
performance of essential functions
WORK SCHEDULE:
As assigned, may include evenings, weekends, holidays and be in call rotation as assigned; non-
exempt position
