Cardio-Pulmonary Perfusionist sets up and operates heart/lung machines that support organ function during cardiac surgery or other procedure where circulatory or respiratory function is disrupted. Operates equipment to produce bypass, coronary perfusion, recirculation or partial bypass, or to alter blood temperature, balance, or content. Being a Cardio-Pulmonary Perfusionist requires an advanced degree. Requires a Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) credential. Additionally, Cardio-Pulmonary Perfusionist typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Cardio-Pulmonary Perfusionist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     Position Summary:

    Provides direct patient care to patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice in nursing for Pulmonary and Medical/Surgical care
    Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.

    Documents patient care given.

    Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.

    Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.

    Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.

    Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.

    Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.

    Performs patient care in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice in other nursing units as necessary.


    Reports to: Director - GI/GU and Pulmonary Care Units

    FLSA: Non-exempt


    Minimum Education

    Associate’s degree in Nursing or RN Diploma - Required

    Bachelor’s degree in Nursing - Preferred

     

    Required Skills

    Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Computer proficiency required.

     

    Certifications:

    American Heart Association (AHA) OR American Red Cross Certifications

    Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required to be current upon hire

    Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - Required within 6 months of hire

     

    Licenses: State of Tennessee or Multi-State Registered Nurse licensure – Required
