Summary

Under the direction of the department manager performs electrocardiography exams including but not limited to 12 Lead EKG, rhythm strips, Holter monitor application and scanning, and pacemaker evaluation. Also performs diagnostic stress studies including but not limited to treadmill or pharmacologic stress procedures under physician/mid-level supervision.

Responsibilities

• Assure physician orders and exam documentation are properly identified for each patient to be tested. 
• Explains all test procedures to patients. 
• Obtains patient specific demographics, medical history and informed consent from each patient as required by the exam. 
• Performs good quality 12 Lead EKGs, rhythm strips, Holter Monitors and Stress studies in a variety of modalities. 
• Performs high quality scanning of Holter Monitor recordings, recognizing at least 90% of diagnostic irregularities. 
• Utilizes software programs required to process exams. 
• Perform, downloads and processes out all exams in a timely manner. 
• Ensures charge reconciliation is accurate with exam that has been done. 
• Performs patient prep for a variety of cardiac stress testing modalities. 
• Assists practitioner with procedure by recording cardiac response while patent undergoes stress exam. 
• Demonstrates proper level of arrhythmia recognition and understanding while monitoring stress exam changes. 
• Checks emergency equipment at beginning of shift and understands how to operate equipment. Knows the location of emergency supplies within the rooms. 
• Maintains adequate supply levels for materials uses in daily duties. 
• Maintains a clean and orderly work area. 
• Assists with training new hires to this or similar positions. 
• Maintains accurate and legible documentation in all phases of departmental record keeping and daily paperwork. 
• Demonstrates the ability to assess a situation from many prospective and problem solves independently where appropriate, consistent with hospital policy. 
• Seeks out missing information from appropriate party to facilitate efficient patient care. 
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required 

• High school graduate or equivalent. 
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Completion of basic arrhythmia interpretation class required within six (6) months of hire.

• One (1) year experience in 12-Lead EKGs, Holter Monitoring and cardiac stress testing.
