Salary: Commensurate with Experience and Education Level College & Career Counselor, Charlotte Lab School | 2023-2024 Application Closing Date: Upon Filling Position Hours: Full-Time Start Date: Aug 2023 Contract End Date: June 30, 2024 Overview The Charlotte Lab College & Career Counselor is considered a leadership role and will have responsibilities in support of students' academic achievement, social/emotional development, career readiness, and overall community wellness. Lab is seeking a counselor who can develop and implement a comprehensive school college and career program, aligned with the NC School Counseling Standards, NC graduation requirements, including the following elements outlined below. Responsibilities Mission Alignment: * Show passion for and make decisions that are aligned with Lab's vision, mission, and long-term and annual goals. Strategic Leadership: * Demonstrate professional demeanor, strong self-confidence; * In alignment with the organization's strategic plan, set direction for teams and motivate others to action; * Display unquestioned integrity, strong judgment, and decision-making skills. * Collaborate effectively with others toward completion of common goals. Instructional Leadership: * Have a deep knowledge of effective teaching practices; * Facilitate small group sessions and design adult learning experiences that offer best practices and create communities of collaboration; * Work with Heads of School to implement college/career readiness and school improvement strategies, and support them to implement their school priorities in alignment with Lab's vision, mission, and strategic plan; * Share weekly student development and progress monitoring with Student Services Team; * Lead and participate in non-evaluative advisory peer observations, learning walks, instructional rounds visits, and other collaborative learning activities designed to continually improve instructional practice; * Help in building/strengthening the collaboration with special education around how best to service the needs of special education students; * Serve as a resource to Advisors for developmental, educational, and social-emotional concerns of students; * Provide professional development opportunities for staff and advisors, as needed, in various topics related to students' college and career readiness, including effective advisory sessions, advisory curriculum topics, and other strategies supported by Lab; * Provide coaching to staff in their role as advisors, through a regular observation/feedback cycle. Cultural Leadership: * Act as a liaison between community agencies, parents, students, and the Lab school team; * Develop programs in conjunction with outside agencies to better serve students and families throughout their time before, during, and after Upper School; * Develop relationships with students, families, teachers and colleagues based on mutual respect, integrity and trust, in pursuit of school goals and vision; * Develop, lead, and model the implementation of culture and discipline policies grounded in trauma-informed and restorative practices with a lens for diversity and equity; * Assist in the planning and participate in a variety of parent, family, and organization-wide events designed to build community and parent/family capacity and understanding of Lab's college and career readiness model and practices related to curriculum and student support; * Create equitable and inclusive learning, planning, and meeting environments that honor and support a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives; * Model and reinforce the importance of diverse, equitable, and inclusive practices in curriculum development, instructional strategies, and assessment practices; * Provide short-term individual and group college & career counseling for students as needed; * Identify students in need of social-emotional and academic support in collaboration with advisors, staff, parents, and families; * Collaborate with leadership staff, including the Heads of School and Dean of Students, to facilitate restorative conversations related to disciplinary matters; * Provide crisis support and assistance to students and families in crisis or emergency situations; * Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with outside professionals to provide services and support to students and families through referrals and programming; * Be prepared to recognize and respond to student mental health needs, including crises, and connect students, teachers, and families to relevant resources; * Follow up on attendance issues in collaboration with Campus Operations Manager and School Counselor; * Maintain appropriate paperwork for documentation of student progress and communication; * Maintain working relationships with community agencies in the surrounding area; * Establish and maintain a referral list of support service specialists; * Provide appropriate staff with information regarding students' college and career development with
