    Basic Function:
    Under the direction of the Executive Director of Career Services, provides career counseling and recruitment services for graduates and undergraduate students and alumni in all programs. The Career Counselor & Employer Services Coordinator works with employers on specialized recruiting programs and is responsible for co-planning of the annual Career & Intern Expo, scheduling on-campus interviews, information sessions, and tables with employers. The person will also counsel and coach students and alumni on career-related issues. The position uses independent judgment to hire, train, schedule, and manage 2-3 Graduate Assistants, providing feedback and mentoring to improve customer service and office efficiency. The person also helps process student employment on-campus.

    Representative Duties:
    Provides career counseling and advising for students and alumni in person, via email, Zoom, Skype, and by phone, including: career profile updates, adding job search agents, career exploration, career development, job search, resume and cover letter reviews, mock interviews, salary negotiations and graduate school advising. E
    Provides specialized career counseling to various student populations, including first generation college students, students with learning and mental disabilities, international and LGBTQ students.E
    Reviews and edit resumes, cover letters, and graduate school essays and train interns to as well.E
    Uses independent judgment to plan and facilitate weekend and evening career workshops and class presentations. E
    Prepares marketing materials, including digital marketing and video materials, to promote career services resources, workshops, and internship opportunities to students. E
    Uses independent judgment to provide information on multiple online career resources to students and alumni. E
    Maintains and edits career database, including categorizing jobs, internships, and employers. E
    Updates Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. and oversees social media marketing. E
    Travels to national conferences and events as a representative of the Career Services Department. E
    Establishes a strategic relationship and works directly with employers, professional associations, and community organizations to facilitate internship opportunities for students. E
    Engages in outreach activities to inform employers about the various services Career Services offers. E
    Schedules on-campus interviews and information sessions with employers. E
    Serves as a host to employers during on-campus recruitments and meets employers at their site. E
    Coordinates and ensures implementation for annual career fair VIP employer participants. E
    Maintains and continually updates employer information and contacts. E
    Provides administrative support for the department with the assistance of student workers. E
    Uses independent judgment to hire, train, schedule, and manage 2-3 Graduate Assistants. E
    Extracts data using Excel and also utilizes various software programs. E
    Updates website and checks jobs and internships posted each day for errors. E
    Works closely and effectively with all California Lutheran University departments, offices and numerous external constituencies to ensure the quality and accuracy of all deliverables. E
    Organizes weekly surveys and tracks survey data for trends. E
    Opens and closes the office daily as assigned. E
    Manages Online Resume Search subscriptions from employers. E
    Maintains Career Library and book check out system.
    Creates Success Stories by showcasing career achievements of individual students and alumni on Instagram.
    Administers and interprets career assessments Strong Interest Inventory, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, FOCUS2Career.
    Assists with processing I-9, W-4, direct deposit and other forms to authorize student employment.
    Ensures that job alert email communications are updated according to users preferences.
    Supports Assistant Director in pre-health advising and submitting letters of recommendation.
    Performs related duties as assigned.

    Ability To:
    Use independent judgment to advise individuals regarding career exploration, decision making, and the job search.
    Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and employers.
    Manage Graduate Assistants; hiring, scheduling, and training.
    Speak publicly and facilitate workshops and class presentations.
    Think critically and analytically to solve problems and manage conflict.
    Work effectively with individuals from different backgrounds and nationalities
    Interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
    Work with multiple online systems and databases and learn new software programs easily.
    Make suggestions to improve office processes for efficiency.
    Assist individuals with obtaining career-related resources.
    Maintain accurate records and files and pay close attention to detail.
    Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
    Manage office surveys and payment requisitions.
    Read and stay current on various publications, websites, and attend conferences to become an expert in the field.
    Operate office equipment, including operation of personal computers and conducting internet research.
    Plan, organize, coordinate and prioritize duties.
    Work nights and weekends for specialty event requests as assigned.
    Work independently with minimal direction.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Any combination equivalent to: A Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in higher education, employer relations, outreach, career development or a related field.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Masters degree preferred in Counseling, Career Counseling, College Student Personnel, Student Affairs, Organizational Leadership, Education, Business, Public Policy, Psychology, or related field, and at least one year of experience in career counseling, employer relations, student affairs, recruiting, human resources, staff management, and/or higher education.

    Demonstrated commitment to and success working in diverse, multi-cultural and multi-racial communities.
