Job Summary:Oversee the day-to-day operation of all Grand Canyon Railway giftshops and warehouse operations. including corporate liaison, daily sales, customer service, training & development, payroll, inventory control, and merchandising for multiple high-volume retail shops on the property, as well as all e-commerce and related administrative duties for the department. The position works closely with the corporate retail group, including the VP Senior Director of Merchandising of Retail and corporate buying staff to ensure strong product flow and operational excellence.

Responsibilities:
• Hands-on daily management of Grand Canyon Railway retail gift shops and retail Distribution Center.• Execution of retail product placement strategies and planograms from an operational, inventory management, and visual perspective.• Lead, communicate, and measure all KPI’s with the store management team to achieve financial plan goals, with a focus on revenue, cost of sales, labor, OPEX. Manages all development & documentation for direct reports.• Create, implement and administer Retail department Policies and Procedures• Manage and guide the activities of Store Managers, on-site Native American Buyers, Visual Display, and Trainers, to meet and exceed guest expectations. • Maintain open and professional communications with corporate retail personnel, vendors, and suppliers.• Responsible for creation of an annual financial plan as well as an annual capital plan for the Retail department.• Develop and lead the retail guest service program.• Lead the Loss Prevention efforts for the Retail Department, ensuring proper controls and metrics are in place for all operations.• Work closely with the Corporate Buying team to ensure the product fits the Grand Canyon railway setting and store/Area themes, and meets the highest quality standards. Supplement the inventory with local products including Native American Jewelry and crafts. • Create opportunities for local product merchandising; including trunk shows, and signings for interpretive, interactive, and educational purposes. Attending local/regional trade shows as required.• Work closely with the Retail Distribution Center Manager and store Management teams to ensure products are shipped to stores promptly to maintain full inventory and ensure the product is fully represented on the sales floor.• Work closely with Sales, Transportation, and Food and Beverage departments and the Train, maximizing retail sales via group tours and day tour business.• Responsible for conducting annual reviews of all salaried exempt personnel in the Retail department.• Interview and select supervisory/management staff.• Active on-site leadership and participation in Retail Capital projects working closely with the Corporate Retail team as well as on site Engineering and NPS teams.• Work closely with department trainer in developing and administering new training classes including guest service, developing knowledge of Native American Crafts and interpretive training on the history of Fred Harvey retail at the South Rim. • Project a commitment to Xanterra environmental policies.• Take over duties of property-wide Director on Duty as assigned.• Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Seven years minimum retail management experience in a high-volume, high sales multi-unit retail operation(s).• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Retail Merchandising, Marketing, or equivalent field. Commensurate experience may substitute for some of the educational requirements.• Excellent analytical skills regarding sales figures, COS, financial statements, and purchase contracts.• Excellent interpersonal skills to deal effectively with managers, staff, vendors, suppliers, and National Park Service Concessions personnel.• Excellent written, verbal, and problem-solving skills.• Experience with Word and Excel software, plus computerized POS & Inventory Management systems, Guest Survey systems, Labor Management systems, hospitality systems.
