Assistant Program Director – Professionalism/Career Services

    The KU School of Business is seeking an individual with experience in career services or business recruiting to serve as the Assistant Program Director of our Professionalism Program. This position reports to the Professionalism Program Director and will lead the strategic planning and execution for delivery of unit-wide career management strategies for the KU School of Business. This includes:
    • Providing a set of resources and programs to ensure a strong internal career preparation framework for KU Business students,
    • Facilitating employment efforts, including career fairs, on-campus recruiting, internship/job posting procedures and development of strategic recruiting partnerships, and
    • Coordinating efforts with others across the professionalism team, school, and university.

    This is a full-time, regular, 12-month unclassified professional staff position. This position is designated as primarily on-campus during the academic year but has flexibility to work virtually or hybrid over breaks and summer, as approved. The incumbent’s office will be located in Capitol Federal Hall, a 166,500 square foot modern facility that the School of Business has called home since 2016. Other flexible work schedules will be evaluated as per KU policy and School guidelines.

    Job Description

    (50%) Program Leadership, Management and Support – Serves as Assistant Director of Professionalism Program. Responsible for managing career services delivery for the KU School of Business. Duties include but are not limited to:
    • Assist the Professionalism Program Director with the program administration, leadership, personnel management, budget execution, and strategic planning.
    • Supervise Business Career Services staff. Oversee personnel issues for the unit.
    • Evaluate and maintain contracts for vendor products including Career Services Management software, mobile app software and specialized career resources for KU Business students.
    • Exercise judgment in the use of financial resources allocated by Program Director.
    • Collaborate with Business School Research Analyst to track, manage and report key data associated with career outcomes. Work with Director to report employment data statistics to internal and external constituents.
    • Oversee the marketing and promotion of Business Career Services offerings to internal and external audiences, including the publication of an annual report.
    • Identify areas for program improvement, forecast needs and develop solutions. Tools may include collecting student feedback, utilizing focus groups and/or business networks.
    • Collaborate with university counterparts in other career centers and relevant units on campus.
    • Represent Business Career Services on internal committees, to various Business School Boards of Advisors and with other Big 12 and peer universities.
    (40%) Delivery of Career Advising Strategies
    • Advise B-School students in one-on-one career advising appointments on appropriate domestic and international career management and job search strategies, demonstrating knowledge and familiarity with a broad range of business career functions and industries.
    • Serve as the designated career services point of contact for students in the Business Leadership Program.
    • Provide support and guidance to pre-Business students, alumni, and prospective students as warranted.
    • May manage and deliver presentations and workshops associated with the preparation of students for the job market including a range of career management topics in coordination with professionalism program staff.
    • In collaboration with other school faculty and staff, facilitate networking and career events involving participation from industry for various Business School majors, program and student organizations.
    (10%) Miscellaneous and Service
    • Develop and maintain partnerships in collaboration with other Business School staff.
    • Assist the Employer Relations and Industry (ERI) team, as needed, with the Business Career Services Employer Advisory Council and the annual meeting.
    • Complete other job related duties as assigned to provide a top quality, agile, business career services program.
    • May provide instruction of BUS 210, if needed.
    • Participate as a valued member of the School of Business staff including attending assembly meetings.
    • Participate in special projects and/or on special committees within the school, as assigned.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree plus 5 years of work related experience OR Master's degree.
    • Demonstrated record of managing people, projects or meeting deadlines.
    • Excellent communication skills as evidenced by application materials.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Masters degree in business or closely related field.
    • At least five years of directly relevant experience in career services, higher education, or recruiting.
    • Evidence of ability to build strong relationships across a wide constituent base.
    • Experience with direct supervision of staff.
    • Experience with strategic planning and execution of program outcomes.
