Carpenter jobs in Chicago, IL
Carpenter constructs, maintains, and remodels buildings or related structures. Installs, fixes, or modifies all aspects of a building, including walls, ceilings, floors, and stairs, as well as related structures like railings, doors, windows, and air conditioning systems. Being a Carpenter follows blueprints and plans to ensure requirements and specifications are met. Observes all worksite safety procedures and guidelines. Additionally, Carpenter inspects buildings to determine repair that needs to be done. An apprenticeship and/or formal training may be required. Typically requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Carpenter works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. - Collaborate with other carpenters, journeymen, and supervisors to complete projects
- Troubleshoot and repair issues with building components and equipment
- Follow established regulations and advocate for safety on each worksite
Finish Carpenter Requirements and Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED certificate
- Keen attention to detail
- Blueprint reading skills
- Able to use common hand tools and power tools
- PPE and carpentry trade tools
- Troubleshooting and communication skills
- Physical stamina for lifting equipment and working at various heights and in tight spaces
